About this business

The serpentine queues outside this little pizzeria is a fair enough indication of it's popularity in the city. However, Apizza Scholls' fame goes far beyondPortland. This no non-sense pizzeria is frequently listed amongst the country's top pizza places and is a must-visit fixture when in the city. The restaurant's kitchen headed by owner Brian Spangler delights with his single-minded focus of crafting some of the best pizza pies. Choose from a delectable selection of house pies featuring classics like the Apizza Margherita a... read more

We don't get it... – Service was very friendly. Salads were good (seasonal greens and a Caesar) and large enough for two people to split. Really nice wine list - both by the bottle and the glass. Didn't order beer, but looked like quite a few selections were available. After that, don't really get the draw. We had to wait an hour to be seated - and we got there at opening. The pizza's not the best I've ever had by any stretch of the imagination. We all liked the thin, crispy crust; I was in the minority in not liking the bur... read more

good stuff – I just visited for the first time since they moved from over on my side of town. This place is great and the pizza is wonderful. The wait is a bit much for pizza but the ronis can't be beat.

THIS is great pizza? – We recently moved to Portland. We went there our second night in town at about 5:30. They open at 5 and there was an hour wait. We decided to leave. Tonight we got there right at 5 after 5 and the place was already filled. We got the last open table. Withing 15 minutes there were 30 people waiting. After eating there, I have no idea why. The pizza is better than average, but FAR from great, and overpriced. $6 for a bottle of beer is also a bit much. This pizza would barely be passable in Italy (where I... read more

Lucky to be in Portland – While the food in Portland is generally good, there is a serious lack of quality pizza. Apizza Scholls has the 2nd best pizza I've had in Portland. The first is Nostrana the tartufo there is off the heesey. The problem is that unlike say every pizza shop in the Northeast they don't deliver or offer take out. In fact they don't even answer the phone. Only in a town with no competition could you get away with this business model as a pizza shop. How anyone tolerates waiting in the rain to eat pizza is... read more

Best pizza in Portland, but what's the new location about? – I've read through the reviews here and I generally have to agree. Apizza Scholls is the best pizza in Portland, although as a total restaurant experience it sorely lacks. If you want really good pizza, and can put up with the wait (like being squeezed between other customers' tables), bad service, etc., then definitely try it. It reminds me a little of Christo's in Salem - not enough room (I admit I haven't seen the expansion yet - I will soon), ugly cheap seating,... read more

Best pizza in Portland Metro – Apizza Scholls is undoubtedly the best pizza place in Portland. Read the other reviews, and please go, you won't be dissapointed. I haven't had pizza this good since I was in Italy, and I have become quite a fan on my many visits to this restaurant. The pizzas start with fresh dough slowly retarded over night to build up great flavor, and it crisps up so well with an airy center and slightly chewy edges. It's nice and thin, the only way real pizza should be! The toppings are all fantastic, most... read more

Great New York Style Pizza! – Even better than New York, in fact! This is the best thin crust pizza I have had, hands down. Nice staff with a sense of humor, excellent service and above all, quality food.

worth a try but it was not what i was hoping for – i was excited when i heard that this restaurant seved thin crust pizza, but i didn't know that they served it well-baked. personally, i love the italian style pizza when a slice drapes down when lifted. i did like the flavor of crust and light sauce, though. if you like the moist thin crust pizza, try via tribunali in seattle.

A Pizza Scholls Is The Soup Na*i Of Portland (Seinfeld) – And I am a dedicated follower. What an addiction I tell you! Prisoners have their last meal on earth, A Pizza Scholls would be my pick! Yes, you have to wait on a list (go to the Bar Of The Gods) next door and have a drink.....after the wait to get it, it is smooth sailing. Awesome awesome Pizza worth the wait! NEW YORK WHITE is my favorite. Not too crazy about the red sauce (scalped a piece off a nearby patron). Still, I see couples of 2 ordering 2 pizzas alone. Grea... read more
