About this business

The serpentine queues outside this little pizzeria is a fair enough indication of it's popularity in the city. However, Apizza Scholls' fame goes far beyondPortland. This no non-sense pizzeria is frequently listed amongst the country's top pizza places and is a must-visit fixture when in the city. The restaurant's kitchen headed by owner Brian Spangler delights with his single-minded focus of crafting some of the best pizza pies. Choose from a delectable selection of house pies featuring classics like the Apizza Margherita a... read more

Great place! (if you love terrible service) – Why do people go here? Does the gruff, condescending service remind them of their wonderful trip to the east coast? I'm glad that people have had good experiences here but I'll never go back - no pizza is worth enduring the service at Apizza.

Nailed It – I'm amused that the previous poster knows that dough shortage is common here, yet choses to show up 45 mins before close on a Saturday night, then gives it one star. But I'm also part of the industry, and won't go near a restaurant anywhere near the end of service. Personally, I love the "pizza snobbery", if you will, that Apizza Scholls exhibits. The pizza is that good, and they know it. Plus, when you prepare fresh food every day, you're not going to be able serve people 15 hrs a day and keep that "late night" ... read more

Their motto: Open at 5:00 close when they run out of dough! – My husband and I love pizza. We really love a great thin crust, high quality toppings with a fabulous dough. Unfortunately, Apizza scholls NEVER makes enough flippin dough to make it through to their posted closing hours. This is ludicrous when it comes to business. Their signs and websites say, "we are open from 5:00-9:30 (too early for a closing time on a pizza place)." They even put the caveat that they will close when they run out of dough. Apparently they do ... read more

Very good pizza. Lousy service. – Their pizza is very good, but I like Ken's Artisan Pizza better. And the horrendous, unfriendly, inattentive service (compared with awesome, friendly service every time at Ken's) made my wife and I finally decide we would never go back. We have been about four times, and although it has been unpleasant in at least one respect every time, we kept going back hoping the next time would be different (and it's only a few blocks from our house, so we can walk there instead of driving to Ken's). Bu... read more

Great Pizza! Love it! – The pizza was as good as everyone says! The antipasta plate was very good too. We'll definitely be back to have more!

Best Brick Oven NY Style Pizza Out Of New York – We went there at the original location (out in the sticks in Scholls), and it's the same here but of course more convenient. You have to have patience, the untrained arrogant waitstaff should be ignored in favor of these thin, crisp, black-bottomed pies. A bit expensive for what you get, but everything's getting that way. If you've ever been to New York and eaten at John's, Totonno's, or Lombardi's this pie is for you. Is there a real coal oven back there? I don't think so, bu... read more

that last reviewer (veronicaone) has no taste – apizza scholls transcends normal pizza in every sense. these people take pride in their work, which is obviously wasted on someone like veronicaone. so for all you folks out there who haven't been there before, they make one of the best pizzas you will find outside of italy. and for all you people like veronicaone, keep going to hot lips pizza, we sure won't miss you at fine eating establishments like apizza scholls. [and for the record, the short waiter is not gay. i don't kno... read more

avoid the pretentious hole in the wall – I can't believe this place, they are the (the short gay waiter) most pretentious idiots on the planet, all they serve is pizza, pizza for dummies, the waiter, greeting us at the door said oh it's at least 30 minutes here, anytime, we looked at him, for what? a table? are you crazy? you want me to wait for 30 minues for a piece of dough with tomato sauce? and your horribe attitude? get a life!!!!!!!!!!!!!! obviously the owners and the waiters are complete idiots and its only freaking p... read more

Come on!! You can do it! Things are finally looking up in the service dept......... – My wife and I have been pretty regular die-hard devotees of Apizza Scholls for about 8 months and have withstood some (quite a few) bad with the good in order to enjoy the quality food. It's time the owners realize that the same attention to detail and devotion to quality they hold for their food should also be held to their dining environment and service. For months your servers seemed at times either barely awake or overwhelmed and stress... read more
