The serpentine queues outside this little pizzeria is a fair enough indication of it's popularity in the city. However, Apizza Scholls' fame goes far beyondPortland. This no non-sense pizzeria is frequently listed amongst the country's top pizza places and is a must-visit fixture when in the city. The restaurant's kitchen headed by owner Brian Spangler delights with his single-minded focus of crafting some of the best pizza pies. Choose from a delectable selection of house pies featuring classics like the Apizza Margherita a... read more

Havn't had the pizza because... – ...this place has such a "don't want or need your business attitude." I am trying every pizza place in town and I was excited to try Pizza Scholls because of a few good reviews. Problem is, they don't seem to want my business! Starting with the fact they are only open between 5pm and 10pm and not on Mon or Tues. Then they don't deliver or have take out. Finally, I went out of my way to come to be seated and they were so indifferent/rude and left me waiting that I just left. Guess I won't eve... read more
Worst good pizza – Yes its weird, but for what this place is trying to be, they suck, wrong wrong wrong, sauce is way to bitter, way over priced, over charred crust and is lacking flavor. I dont understand the hype. I have had worse pizza for sure but i knew what I was getting into from the get go.... I would not recommend this place, I think pizzacatto (spelling) is a better way to go than Apizza scholls.
Don't Believe the Hype! – I stopped by several times when this restaurant first opened, but never felt like enduring the wait. A year later, we decided to check it out today at 5:00 right when they opened. People were queued up even then. The salads were good--quite large and flavorful. the pizza, which it seems this whole town can't rave enough about--was abyssmal. The crust was burned and not the least bit flavorful. The service was cranky. The cannolli were THE WORST I HAVE EVER TASTED bar none (and I've had my share). I ... read more
Goodbye Cheesy Sliced Pizza Places! – If your idea of great pizza is the best cheeses and sauces combined on a scorching hot thin crust served right out of the oven-so hot that you have to eat the first couple of slices with a knife and fork (really!!)-without ANY of the garish toppings added by every other pizza maker-then Apizza Scholls is YOUR place. I have eaten 25 plain pies at APS, and every one has been exactly the same: PERFECT. The price seems high, but it's about the same as the cheesy PBS (pizza by the slice) plac... read more
Locally owned favorite – If your tastebuds crave Dominoes then don't eat here! This pizza is for the more matured palate. The owners also own and run Olive Mountain Baking, so they know dough and this Pizza is Divine. They bake thier pizza in very hot oven which does slightly char the edges of the crust, but this adds to the flavor and the Charm. You can get a passable pizza anywhere in this city, but there is only one Apizza Scholls.
Bustling craft pizzeria on SE Hawthorne packs in a loyal following of pizza purists. – In Short You won't notice the plain storefront or minimalist interior for the throngs of people waiting to dine on this celebrated gourmet pie. Couples, families and groups come from all over town for the crisp and chewy crust; the product of a 24-hour slow fermented dough and very hot oven. The star crust is judiciously topped with combinations of whole milk mozzarella, fresh garlic, and Viande meats. Traditional Caesar salad and house-ma... read more
"Apizza Pooh"! – If you like burnt pizza, horrible service, screaming from the kitchen and a chatty Cathy bar keep, then this is the place for you. This train wreck of a pizza house is so not worth the trip. Save yourself the time and money; order yourself Dominos stick it in the oven on high for a few hours and your good to go. I hope this review saves you some heartache or better yet a stomachache.
bring back low's – don't know anything about the pizza but the barbeque was the best in the city. pulled pork was meaty instead of shredded, brisket had perfect marbling and both weren't greasy at all, too bad low's is going to be gone in about a week, everybody should show up on the 29th for the last day of low's and get yourself a couple lbs of brisket
It's all about the crust – Fabulous pizza -- simple, high quallity ingredients allow the divine, chewy crust to stand out. this is pizza that is meant to be eaten fresh, on-site. Leftovers pale by comparison. We were impressed by the quality, the friendly staff. Mom tends the bar. We had a pleasant conversation with her over a bottle of wine waiting for our table. Overall a great experience in a locally owned and operated business doing something they love.
