The serpentine queues outside this little pizzeria is a fair enough indication of it's popularity in the city. However, Apizza Scholls' fame goes far beyondPortland. This no non-sense pizzeria is frequently listed amongst the country's top pizza places and is a must-visit fixture when in the city. The restaurant's kitchen headed by owner Brian Spangler delights with his single-minded focus of crafting some of the best pizza pies. Choose from a delectable selection of house pies featuring classics like the Apizza Margherita a... read more

The best – I was so discouraged at the west coast pizza and how it differs from the East Coast, until My friend too my here. Excellent! The crust is good, tasty chewy and not soggy like so many other places. The sauce is excellent, flavorful. And the cheese is great. This place has the right stuff for great pizza. Too bad there were not more of this kind of pizza in Portland. My definition of good pizza... You just had thanksgiving dinner and you are stuffed to the gills, you go out with your friends... they serve pizza... I... read more
Apizza Scholls... not so great! – I don't get the obsession with this place. The crust is okay, the sauce is okay, the toppings are fresh but, what about the cheese? In my book, the cheese is essential to a good pizza. Along with a GOOD sauce and crust. They have none of these qualities. I was extremely disappointed by A Pizza Scholls. They do NOT produce the type of pizza that deserves any kind of wait. Escape From NY puts them to shame. I had to add salt to my pizza because they didn't add enough cheese to qualify for a "t... read more
THE BEST – I've eaten at top places in Chicago and NY, and Apizza Scholls is my favorite. It has a unique style that may not be for everyone. Some of my friends don't care for the chewy crust or the simplicity of toppings, but I think that is what makes it great. An unbelievable crust that is chewy and crispy and tangy and thin yet substantial... The toppings are almost minimalistic, but I never mind because they are such high quality that it doesn't take loads of it to get great flavor. The goat-horn peppers... oh my god, h... read more
Great pizza! – We decided to try this out because we saw it on Anthony Bordain and it also came highly recommended by a family member. Glad we did! It is a little difficult to find parking in this area, but we lucked out. We went on a Friday night and sat at the bar rather than waiting for a table. It wouldn't have been much of a wait anyway for a table. Our pizza did take awhile, 45 minutes, but the pizza was worth it. Tons of garlic, pepperoni, and not over the top on the sauce. The customer service here is really great to... read more
EXPENSIVE FOR VERY LITTLE – easy to spend $50 here and still be hungry. beware that on the menu it says $2 for additional toppings, but that goes for substitutions also. So if you want onions instead of mushrooms, they will give you a tiny amt of onion instead, and charge you for it. also be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour even on a slow night.
Flippin' Delish – This place is hands down the best pizza in Portland for three reasons: 1. simple, quality ingredients, 2. wood fire ovens 3. sensible flavor combinations. You won't find BBQ chicken pizza or similar junk, just simple, honest food. The crust is both crisp and chewy and has a carmelized taste that will rock your world. Toppings are big on flavor and simultaneously dainty. A caesar salad is exceptionally tasty and light, without a fishy aftertaste, some good micros on tap. The wait can be long but the staff is... read more
best pizza we have had on the west coast – only had it once so far, but it lived up to expectations. Paper thin crust, cooked perfect. Have had some awful pizza since we moved to the west coast, but Apizza Scholls definitely does it right. Anxiously awaiting our next visit. Looking forward to trying Sicilian Sundays.
Do you like it just because the wait makes you hungry? – My husband and I live in the neighborhood and have tried many of the restaurants that have inhabited this space. I'm home grown and my husband is from California. The pizzas we enjoy most are from Zupan's - made in Italy (and frozen), so maybe we are not the best judges. I will say, however, that the pizza we "enjoyed" was very disappointing and the only thing that I can understand about the great reviews, is that the people who had to wait soooo long in line, is that ... read more
