About this business

The serpentine queues outside this little pizzeria is a fair enough indication of it's popularity in the city. However, Apizza Scholls' fame goes far beyondPortland. This no non-sense pizzeria is frequently listed amongst the country's top pizza places and is a must-visit fixture when in the city. The restaurant's kitchen headed by owner Brian Spangler delights with his single-minded focus of crafting some of the best pizza pies. Fantastic Pizza!!! Trust me!!! – I agree with the other reviewer about people not even waiting to taste the pizza b/c it's too long of a wait then writing bad reviews. WHATEVER!!! It's a small local place that is always packed and everything is from scratch and made with love so of course it takes time. Even resturants that are 4 stars have the sauces etc. already prepared so it doesn't take as long. These guys have to flatten out the dough, place the toppings on with perfection, and then cook them. You can only cook so many... read more

YUMMY IN MY TUMMY!!!!!!!! – We were there tonite for my birthday, got there at quarter to 5, and stood in a small line. Got seated instantly when the doors opened. The tables are super small, I must admit, and the ambience is pretty much non- existent. We ordered the veggie plate for an appetizer, which was interesting. For pizza , we ordered one White Pie , and one Sausage Pie. The pizza was quite amazing, I did prefer the sausage pie to the white pie, as the tomato sauce is very tangy and yummy. The service was pleasant. I... read more

Best Pizza West of the Rockies! – First of all, to the people giving poor reviews because they had to wait and left without even tasting the food... why do you think so many people are willing to wait so long? Because this pizza is amazing! and I question the judgement of anyone who eats at BJs and thinks it's good. At Apizza Scholls, the crust is the perfect thickness, just crunchy on the bottom and edges, a little chewiness. All the toppings, sauce and cheeses are in perfect harmony. The caesar salad is excellent. those of... read more

Out of dough? Closed sundays and mondays? Is this Russia? – The pizza ain't that great, they refuse to open like a normal restaurant and think it s cool to limit their production to the amount they made earlier that day. It's Hawthorn people, not san fransisco or NY, the snobiness of a big city to the street of SE? Give me a break.

Don't Even Try w/Young Kids – We set out with our two kids (4 and 9 months) on a Saturday night, arriving at 5:20 as we heard the place was busy. We signed up at the door, got some wine, and waited. And waited. My wife asked for some water as our nine month old son was hungry and she had to mix his food. They said they were too busy to get her one. I did laps up and down the street trying to keep my four year old from going stir crazy. Finally, after more than an hour, my wife pulled the plug and said, "no way. No pizza is t... read more

NOT ALL THAT! – Service was ok....Pizza was ok..Not worth the $45.00 We dropped for a few glasses of wine, and a pie. I have heard "A pizza scholls is the best in town" Honestly I've had much better service, and pie from BJ's. Sorry won't be back :( Still trying to figure out why we waited 45min. for a table???

Apizza scholls just got trumped – Well what can i say, Apizza has really good pizza, but their attitude towards the customers are really why people are being turned off by them,I had a really bad expierience a couple of weeks ago ,and it had nothing to do with the food, they did not have to earn there business, growing slowly, serving great food with equally great servive eventually gaining popularity thats how most restaurants do it. no they opened ,and the pappers and bloggers launched them into sucess over night, and that i... read more

Fantastic pizza by people who really know pizza, and yes, they only make so much of it. – Simply the best pizza I've had anywhere. It tastes fresh, crispy - crust worth crying over. Great service too. And yes, they do only make so much of it - they're certainly not about mass trade here and I can see that you might be disappointed if you don't know that beforehand (but now you do!).

Very Good, not Amazing – Apizza Scholls makes some fine pizza. The crust and toppins are excellent. Really, you can't go wrong by eating here. Sure, the wait is annoying, but come on people - what do you expect? Just get there early or bring something to read while you wait. Still, I have to give the edge in the great Portland Pizza War to Ken's Artisan Pizza. I alternated visits between Apizza Scholls and Ken's, visiting each one three times before deciding that Ken's was superior. Ken's had consistently shorter wait times ... read more
