Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

Top Notch – One of the best dining experiences I have had all year. The raw tuna appetizer (crudo) was so good we ordered a second plate. It was all very good, green peppers with fresh sardines, pizzas, rigatoni with octopus, roasted chicken...everything! It is clear that they use top ingredients. I asked the manager before leaving and she claimed that they get most of their ingredients from small local farmers but don't like making a big deal about it on the menu. Service was excellent. Hostess was professional and friendly... read more
Best food outside of Napoli – Just had one of the best dining experiences in San Francisco. Everything from the carefully prepared food to the service was more than I hoped for. I have a hard time believing some of the negative comments about service because everyone from the host to the bussers were very gracious and accomodating. We loved the tuna crudo appetizer, the margharita pizza, the tripe, and the meatballs which apparently are on the menu every monday. Wine service was over the top. I could not believe how good the... read more
Food Excellent/Experience Poor – Let me first say, the food was amazing (hand-made fennel sausage!) We started by waiting an hour for our reserved table (they sat a table of 5 only hour before our reservation), followed by the wrong appetizer (forgot the topping), followed by a forgotten order (waitress did not write anything down) and concluded with an incorrect entree altogether (and waited over 10 minutes for the correct one, while others ate). We did get 15% of our bill comp'd, but experience is just as important as the ... read more
Not worth it... – Seemed like there was a snot factor of 9, food wasn't thrilling at all but they did try to be gracious by comping desert. Honestly though the pork was fatty and the tuna could have been out of the can and the biscotti might have been purina dog treats. Nothing to rave about here...
Despite horrible service, good food. – Waited 40 minutes after being seated to get any service. (Many times I saw our server standing in the corner, looking bored. Shouldn't she have been watching over her tables??) When food arrived, had to wait another 10 minutes to get the attention of the server, because wine had not arrived. When bill comes, we get charged for the wrong wine, (a more expensive one) and when I ask about it, I get some obscure explanation about the wine. After paying, I check with the menu and it turns ou... read more
What Is the Hype All About?? – After walking by A16 many times and always seeing the large groups of people waiting for a table, my husband and I thought that this place must be something special. We didn't have a reservation, so decided to wait for a table, which took about 45 minutes. We were seated directly next to the foosball table, which is placed in the middle of the restaurant. Big mistake! About 10 minutes into our meal, a group of 4 loud, obnoxious men proceeded to play a tournament, complete with yelling, booing, ... read more
Beyond Incompetent-Redux – After posting a terrible review of this restaurant a few months ago, I decided to give it another chance based on the glowing comments this restaurant gets on this website. For the life of me, I cannot understand what the hype is all about. Even if the food was terrific (which it is not...it's a little better than average), how can anyone justify waiting over an hour for a table if you have confirmed reservations? Nothing is worth that kind of treatment. This complete disregard for customers should... read more
Nothing Short of Miraculous – Spectacular State-of-the-Art new restaurant! Not usually given to hyperbole, this delightful new restaurant makes one happy to live in San Francisco. Finally a cutting-edge restaurant where the food lives up to the hype! Definitely NOT generic Yuppie. Be patient at dinnertime because with universal acclaim, A16 is busy. It's worth whatever wait. Try lunchtime which I just did, having a marvelous dining experience. EVERYTHING is good: unusual, intense, delectable flavors that jump out at you (spe... read more
Great experience – Spent my honeymoon near Naples and have been craving the food ever since we got back. A friend told us about A16 and we are so glad she did. The food and service were very good. Somehow they have managed to recreate a very authentic experience. We also loved the wine selection. I never would have thought that I would be able to find wines from Campania in San Francisco. Don't miss trying out a Taurasi. One thing to note is that regional Italian food which is what A16 serves is very different than what we a... read more
