About this business

Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

Exceeded Expectations – A friend recommended the pizza and described it as bustling neighborhood place with good food. What we found was a vibrant destination restaurant serving uncommon authentic Italian regional cuisine. The pizza was excellent, but it was the simple rustic dishes that made us swoon, specially the tripe and the pasta with ragu. If you go, ask to have Jamay as your server. She was the best! She recommended great dishes, was always there when we needed there, but was not obtrussive. All in all, one of the be... read more

Amazing – I have to rave about this pretty new restaurant. Everything exceeded our expectations. All six of us kept saying how it was the best pizza, the best pasta, the best salad, the best sausage, the best wine list, etc. we have had in San Francisco. Contrary to other comments on CitySearch, our service was stellar. Everytime we needed something our waiter appeared as if by magic. The owner who doubles as wine steward was very friendly and helped us pick the perfect bottle for our taste and price range. Atmosphere is a b... read more

Very Special Restaurant – I can't say enough good things about A16. Firstly, my pizza prayers have been answered. Finally, a place that serves world class thin crust pizza in SF!!! All the other food was excellent also and it took me backk to my trip to the Amalfi Coast last year. The house made sausage is to die for. The wine list deserve all the press it has been getting. Service was friendly and efficient and better than expected given the moderate prices and causual nature of the restaurant.

Very Enjoyable – A16 is not a high-end, fancy restaurant serving complex food, but it is a casual, fashionable restaurant serving excellent simple fresh Southern Italian food. Servers are friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine which is a good thing since A16 serves many unusual dishes and lesser known wines. So as long as you don't go expecting a Gary Danko experience, and as long as you like simple food made from prestine ingredients, you will love A16.

One of the best dining experiences – Three friends and myself had one of the best dining experiences in san francisco. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and their friendly host (beutiful blonde) kept tabs on us and showed us to our table promptly at our reservation time. Our server was great. She knew the menu really well and we all loved her recommendations, specially the burratta and pork breast. The wine list is very extensive and a bit intimidating but the sommelier graciously came to our rescue and we o... read more

Molto Buono – A16 is a great addition to the San Francisco dining scene. It performs highly on all categories: fresh great tasting food, friendly professional service, vibrant decor, and nice crowd. The food is at par with Delfina, but A16 has a much better wine list and more reasonable prices.

Very Impressed! – After walking out of another Marina restaurant b/c the horribly rude hostess would not allow me and my fiance to sit at a booth at 5:30pm, when the place was completely empty, we happened upon A16. What a pleasurable dining experience! The service was very accomodating and friendly. We were recommended an amazing wine and the food was delicious. Everything was well priced and great. A simple menu with something for everyone. I highly recommend the pizza with proscuitto, yummy! The proscuitto was perfect. It... read more

don't order the pork... – don't bring your own wine choice ($15 corkage fee, fyi) and beware the "special group menu." this might have been my worst dining experience in san francisco, well, ever, really. our waiter, snobby mcsnob, told us what to order in no uncertain terms and then, frustrated by our groups' inability to decide on appetizers, made a snide remark and walked away. when all was said and done, we got one item we never ordered, never got the appetizer we wanted, were charged for a bottle of wine we never asked ... read more

AVOID A16!! – We've all had sub-par experiences at high-end restaurants that fail to meet our expectations, but during Olympic week I have to give A16 the gold. The waiter ordered our appetizers for us IN DIRECT OPPOSITION TO OUR DESIRES - literally made suggestions that we attempted to change, then went ahead and ordered us what he wanted to. The menu was truncated, but would have been tolerable had the food not been so heavy, and lacking in flavor. Only the member of the party who ordered the pizza thought his food was acc... read more
