About this business

Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

Bad Menu,Bad Attitude – I was born and raised in San Francisco and I live in the Marina area. Thus, over my life I have seen many restaurants come and go but A16 is one of the worst dinning experiences I have ever had. We were greeted by a, I'm so better than you, trendy hosts who makes you feel that if you're not in Armani don't bother coming to our neighborhood restaurant. Our server was wonderful but her nice disposition couldn't mask the unappetizing dishes that were to follow. The bread and pizza were the best part of the... read more

Loved It! – Great new place. Everything my group of 6 had was excellent. The pizzas were so light and flavorful that even a professed pizza hater love them. Our favorite dish was the chicken genovese. We had a great Sicilian white and a terrific Zinfandel. Great service overall. This place is keeper.

Excellent – Had a great experience on a date this past Saturday. Was seated promptly for my reservation at 8 pm. The food was very good. I particularly liked the pizza and the pork but my companion enjoyed her halibut. The hazelnut dessert is one of the best desserts I have had. A highlight for us was the attention we had from their great wine steward. She is very knoledgeable and not pretentious. The wines she recommended by the glass matched perfectly with our food. I will definitely be back.

Lacking in Service – We made reservations a month in advance and ended up having to wait an hour and a half at the bar before being served. The service is friendy, but unfortunately they were extremely under-staffed. We were seated in the noisy bar area by the foosball table. Our bill came to us and over-charged us for several items. We had to wait for quite some time before bread and olives finally came to the table. We will not be returning.

Wasn't what I expected – If you like the simplicity of authentic Southern Italian cuisine you will probably like A16, if you look for more robust/complex flavors try Delfina. Personally I was not a fan of the burnt portions of the tasteless pizza crust. The braised chicken was not bad, but was all dark meat. The halibut was fishy. The recommended wines were highly acidic (apparently unoaked) Italian wines. I did not have good service, had to wait an hour after having reservations and all three desserts I tried were less than... read more

Food great, service not so great – Yes, the wine list was fantastic. The pizza just as good. And considering it was in the Marina, the vibe was great, the crowd was more mixed than expected, and the bartender super knowledgeable about the wine and not snotty about it. The bad news -- we got our bread basket a after the first course arrived (after several reminders), the dessert was nasty, and the service was indifferent.

Off the charts – I am so excited about this place. Every dish was superb. I can't believe they fly this creamy cheese called burroto from Los Angeles. It is so over the top decadent. I am fanatical about artichokes and their dish with braised artichokes and spring onions is addictive. Please I need rehab soon. Don't even get me started on the pizzas which are like one big paradox...how can they be thin, crisp, but succulent.... Then you get to combine this great food with an amazing wine list and very attentive service. What... read more

Wine lovers treat – The vibe is familiar - and the food and service are good - but the best part of this place is to put yourself in the sommelier's hands, tell her what you are eating and let her choose the perfect thing for each course from the impressive but obscure wine list.

So worth it!! – A16 is a great new restaurant in a great restaurant town. I found the service, food, wine, and ambiance to be absolutely perfect. Amazing for such a new place, but they already have it together...this simply bodes well for the future. A welcome addtion to my list of favorites.
