About this business

Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

authentic campania region food – Don't expect cheese on your pizza or typical pasta dishes. This is the real deal, serving authentic ,rustic, italian cuisine. I've eaten there about 6 times and never been disappointed. The pizza's are done to Neapolitan perfection. The braised pork and the sirloin are my favourite dishes. The gelato's and the hazelnut semifredo are excellent . I have found the service to be very good and surprised at the negative reviews The wine recommendations by the sommelier are awesome. Nothing like dis... read more

authentic southern italian cuisine – Don't expect many pastas. The cuisine is more rustic and strictly southern Italian. Entrees are mostly $15-22. The braised pork is the best I've ever had. I also recommend the squid pasta (the squid is not rubbery at all). However, I would stay away from the fennel sausage unless you really like sausage (that's pretty much all you get). The favorite dessert in our party was the hazelnut/chocolate tort (desserts are $7-8). Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Although our... read more

Don't believe the naysayers – I think that those that have disliked A16 are not familiar with real Neapolitan food and expect California cuisine. If you are knowledgeable about Italian food, you should try A16. The food is delicious, simple and rustic (read the octupus pasta is braised octopus which is tender rather than chewy and there are no extra ingredients added to make dishes colorful). They take the risk to use lesser cuts of meats such as pork breast which unlike pork loin is fatty and flavorful. It really is like be... read more

bad service, lame atmosphere – Tried A16 on the recommendation of the food by friends and was utterly disappointed. The food was OK (the pizza is better at Pizzetta 211), but the service was terrible. Our server took 30 minutes just to take our order. We got our appetizer and our main course before we even got our wine and the wine order was wrong anyway. The noise from the ex-frat dude beating his date at foosball was deafening and annoying.

Dreadful – Recommended only for toytown yuppies, antique foosball afficonadoes or perhaps rescued castaways that have not tasted restaurant food in years. I don't mind snobbery (hostess) providing it is backed up with quality. Not the case here. My octopus pasta tasted like it came out of a can (that had been opened yesterday) and my wife's pork loin was little more than a blob of fat soaked in brine. Waitress was excellent but got the sense she was trying to make up for the awful food. And what's up with the foosball table?... read more

Wonderful food and service – Had dinner there yesterday and the whole experience was fantastic. My husband loved the wine list and the prices. I loved the simple high quality food. The pork with olives and chestnuts is to die for. Service was very professional. Can't wait to go back.

TERRIBLE Dining Experience – SF is known for the number of amazing restaurants, but this restaurant is by far one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to...SF and beyond. I came into town to visit a friend for the wknd. He made a res, but when we arrived we had to wait 45 min before getting seated. So much for a reservation. The hostess tried to make it better by comping a round of drinks and giving us a free appetizer, which was ok. To top off the ridiculous wait, the food was very mediocre and the halibut I wanted to or... read more

Great Addition to the Marina – I'm shocked to see some negative reviews for this wonderful restaurant. Certainly the best new restaurant in the Marina in quite some time. Their rustic Southern Italian fare is some the best yet at the same time simple I've had. Their pizza is excellent and worth going to A16 for that alone. The sommlier always has great(and resonable) recommendations. I've been twice and she has been extremely helpful both times. The place does get busy and even with a reservation I did have to wait 15 minute... read more

A16 = Excelence – I am very impressed by this young restaurant. EVERYTHING from the meticulously authentic and perfectly prepared Campanian food (yes I have traveled and even lived in Naples and the sorrounding country side so I believe I can attest to that), to the extensive and well priced wine list and culminating with attentive service was EXCEPTIONAL. I cannot keep myself away and keep finding another reason to back at least weekly, whether it is to get my fix of the meltingly tender pork breast, to try a new dish, or h... read more
