Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

Don't believe the hype – Could not be more disappointed in this place. Consider that I have tried to make reservations at this place before with no avail. So this past Saturday I finally got to taste this place. My boyfriend actually called me yesterday to make sure I wrote my review. The lentil soup had zero flavor! We had a salad that was incredily basic, a cold fish plate mixed with potatoes, kinda good but nothing special. I don't want to say this was the worst place as I actually enjoyed my pizza. And would recommend th... read more
Ok but it can be better – Nice spot but the waiters act like they are models. They are there to serve food not to act like they are celebrities, but I guess that is what people want no in days. Food is excellent, service is below average and the price is average.
Better service. . . – Because of what plenty of others have written, I was braced for lots of attitude at this place. Instead, I was quite surprised at how pleasant everyone was. Sommelier, host and hostess, server, food runners, etc. They were all great, although our server had way too many tables. The space is gorgeous but really loud despite a cork wall and floor. Don't go with the hard of hearing. I thought the wine list had really reasonable markups for SF. The food was hit or miss, though. Pizza was undercooked and hea... read more
You can read this book by its cover – This is not a warm & folksy place. That said, it had nice hip ambiance, hip people and pretty good food. Actually the couple next to us at the bar were quite friendly. Lighting was a little dim - it was hard to read menu or see food. Appetizers like this hockey puck sized eggplant parmigiania and this interesting mozzarella burrata were very tasty but surprisingly meager for the price. Pizza was fresh, very good dough but as is often the case, a bit undercooked; still the best value on t... read more
Not worth the wait – Two weeks to get a reservation at this place?? Food was average, poor service. It was relatively inexpensive, but that is all I can say about it. Beware of the Arugula mountain that comes when you ask for it on your pizza; I literally thought it was a joke when it arrived at the table
Don't go - it will just make you angry – The people who work in the restaurant are pretentious and rude. Wait periods for reservations as well as walkins are ludicrously long. No self-respecting Italian would ever eat here. If you love authentic Italian cuisine, forget this place exists. In fact, in Italy this restaurant would only stay open as long as the owner(s) had the ability to finance it personally. It certainly would not make any profits from customers. I also object to the owner's total disregard for the neighbourho... read more
Not worth it - at all – My wife and me have been dining out in the city for years now and have eaten at scores of italian restaurants and have also eaten Neopolitan food in Napoli itself. This place definitely came in below par. The female bartender was quite unfriendly and cold. When my wife requested a non-alcoholic beverage she poured her a pint of orange juice as if she were doing her a favor. The pasta I ordered was pedestrian, at best. I could whip up better fare using a bottle of pre-packaged pasta sauce. Both the pas... read more
King of Pizza – A16 has absolutely the best pizza in the Bay Area. It has charred bubbles from their wood oven, it is moist in the center, and has minimal but high quality ingredients. This is what Neapolitan pizza is like so if you like thin crispy pizzas you will not like this. The appetizers were solid and the asparagus stood out. The sausage was our favorite entree. Wine selection is fantastic and interesting. Service was friendly and professional from the moment the hostess greeted us to the moment we left.
do not believe the hype, total letdown... – looked forward to trying based on the hype... but major disappointment. started out great with awesome wine recommendation from a fantastic bartender. waited ~hour with reservation, asked three times if bar tab was paid before being seated (?), food was total hit and miss; great appetizers but soupy and burnt margherita pizza and pasta was undercooked. our waiter was hurried, arrogant, and forgot side items. the bartender actually came to our table towards end, and provided us free... read more
