About this business

Our restaurant shares a name with the highway that runs from Naples to Canosa, Puglia. True to our namesake, we gather our inspiration from southern Italy, particularly Campania, the region surrounding Naples. Chef David Taylor oversees the menu, which features fresh pasta, house-butchered and house-cured meats and authentic Neapolitan pizza. Complementing the rustic menu, Wine Director/owner Shelley Lindgren selects wines that highlight the indigenous grapes from Campania and nearby regions. Since we opened A16 in February,... read more

Awesome dinning experience – Went to A16 and I have to say it was amazing. This is a place to come and have a dinning experience. The food is good and is served as small plates. You order in courses and you can either order a bottle of wine or have a flight of different wines. By the way, as you have read the wine list is crazy big. This place is always busy and it is very hard to get a reservation, however it is one of those places you can dine at late and it will be very romantic. I find it to be a place that you must dine... read more

Dissapointed – The pizza was great and the wine list deserves the accolades that it constantly receives. But the other food that came was average, if not below average. The pork loin was almost entirely fat (i.e. white and grissly) so I feel like I barely got to eat. The service was so-so but the ambience was nice. I guess next time I'd just go there for wine and order a pizza as an appetizer. I was bummed b/c so many critics have given A16 such rave reviews....seems like it may have gotten ahead of itself with some of the o... read more

CHEF BOY ARDEE TASTES BETTER THAN THIS FOOD – I WAS SO EXCITED TO FINALLY GET A RESERVATION HERE AND WAS SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED. I SERIOUSLY DONT KNOW WHAT ALL THE RAVE IS ABOUT. ALL 4 DISHES WE ORDERED WERE VERY BLAND. THE RED WINE TASTED LIKE VINEGAR. THE MARGARITA PIZZA TASTED LIKE THEY USED CAMPBELL'S TOMATO SOUP FOR THE SAUCE; ACTUALLY CAMPBELLS SOUP WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN THE MEAL I HAD HERE. IF U LIKE BLAND TASELESS FOOD THAN YOU SHOULD DEFINATELY EAT HERE!

Abosulutely loved it – My girlfriend and her family who hail from Caserta (Campania) and I ate at A16 for the first time yesterday. My girlfriend's family was almost in tear when they saw dishes like the maccaronara with ragu, the tripe, whole roasted favas, squid ink pasta, and house cured meats on the menu. The ended up in joyful tears when they tasted the food and memories of their homeland came gushing through. Service was also very attentive. The food at A16 is regional Italian and a far cry to the Italian American shlo... read more

Decent Food, HORRIBLE Service! – We made a reservation a week in advance and still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. They seated 3 of us at a 2 person table in the middle of the floor. We felt very exposed and awkward. We ordered water, drinks, and appetizers, and then they asked us to move! They forgot to give us napkins and bread plates. They did not bring our drinks until after we had finished the appetizers. Wait person did not return until we had finished our meals. Food was decent, but not what I had expected from ... read more

Disappointing – As a 3rd Generation Italian-American (& San Franciscan), this has got to be the most disappointing fare and overrated restaurant that I have been to in quite a while. Since my family comes from the South of Italy as well, it's hard to find any authenticity in any of the dishes. Service is good and it does get noisy. If you like to mingle among the 20 & 30 somethings - this is a great place but hey, after a couple of glasses of wine, anything tastes good if you're hungry!

A bit of a let down – I have been hearing the most wonderful things about A16 for over a year now, and I finally made a reservation for me and my husband this past weekend. We were both pretty amazed at how very average the food was. The mozzarella appetizer was really delicious, but it was pretty much downhill from there on out. In particular, the Tagliolini with mushrooms and pancetta was pretty inedible. It just tasted like overly salted mushroom soup. I am hoping it was just an off batch, because it was truly the worst p... read more

Wonderful--just be patient – Admittedly, it's hard to get in and you'll wait to eat. You have to go there at peace with that fact. But having to wait should not keep you from trying this wonderful restaurant. The food uses disarmingly few and simple ingredients but nonetheless offers surprising depth of flavor. The reasonably-priced wine list contains many selections Americans simply do not often see. While at times rushed, the staff is courteous, efficient, and attentive. And I disagree with posters that find it expensive. ... read more

For Casual Dining, A16 Rocks – The pizza is fantastic, the wine list is eclectic and the fresh mozzarella is to die for. It's often very crowded, and the waits for tables can be long, even with reservations, but don't miss this food. And the service is always friendly.
