I am absolutely disgusted right now. I brought my sick dog in 2 times today and was turned away both times. He has labored breathing and a very swollen belly. He's very sick and not himself. We knew upfront that we did not have money for the visit but this was a complete emergency. We offered to figure out some sort of payment plan or leave any sort of collateral. We would have done ANYTHING to get our dog seen. His vitals were checked and he was considered "stable" enough to go home. They said he probably had gas and needed... read more

Awful! without getting into too much detail: If this is supposed to be an "emergency" facility they should have enough staff/Vets on call to be equipped to handle it; especially when charging the fees that they do. Also I would suggest that if there is a wait time of over 3-4 hours that maybe when ordering food for the staff you could offer for the people that have been waiting to get in on the order...they are hungry too.... Lastly have a place for animals that have been waiting over 3-4 hours for care to have a place to go... read more

Horrible experience. I arrived with my 6 year old cat who had been urinating blood only. There were three other pet families when we came in. They checked my cat to make sure she was stable and they asked me to wait. I patiently waited for over 4 hours. She had not eaten or drank or used the bathroom in over 5 hours by this time. There were other animal parents that were rude and yelling at the staff. I felt that they didn’t need anymore yelling! Families that were there before me and came in after were taken. I had gone to ... read more

I brought my Chihuahua mix Jackie here when she was vomiting and acting unusual. I was so worried about her and the staff provided wonderful care. I am so glad you all were there when we needed help.

Business response:

Joanna, thank you for entrusting us with Jackie's care, as we always strive to provide all pets, including your own, with the very best care. Thanks for sharing!

VCA Boston Rd Animal Hospital Emergency Review based upon my experience with dog presenting with fluid in his belly, the team who created his treatment plan, performed the surgery for a splenic mass and supervised the first 36 hrs of his recovery. ( please also see 5 star review posted on Oct 12 2017 re Dr Alwood) Positives: Staff caring, pleasant and attentive. Two board certified Critical Care Specialists on staff Pricey but not out of line as compared with the many ER/Specialty facilities I've used up and down the east co... read more

Point of clarification....my review is for my experience with Dr Alwood specifically. Not VCA BRAH in general. Dr Amy Alwood DVM DACVECC the board certified critical care specialist at VCA Boston Road Animal hospital is a hidden gem here in the pioneer valley. In the past 3 ½ months I have had two different dogs become patients of hers. One in an emergency situation (post-surgery pneumonia) and the other with a potentially very serious chronic condition. With both my dogs Dr Alwood treated the dogs with compassion and showed... read more
