After 10 years having a 401k with Vangaurd I got a new job and decided to transfer my money out to TD where I can manage it there. Vangaurd not only voided my check once it was finally received at TD, they have repeatedly "forgotten" to expedite a new check despite me calling everyday for reminders. Since all the funds were pulled from my TD account after purchasing stock and TD would not send the new check I had to liquidate everything. Vanguard outperforms Fidelity in every way. Have had scandalously bad customer service from Fidelity. Vanguard's web site is far superior, as are the customer service personnel who answer their phones. Highly recommend.
I have called 10 times they keep hanging up will not close my account I been trying for over 30 days!!! Very disappointed
Difficult online interface, 2 hour wait times to talk to them, and while it's easy to get money into your account, they make it almost impossible to transfer it out.
Great place that seems to really have a handle on things. I do trust them with my retirement
Trying to move money out of company sponsored 401K has been a challenge. There is no online chat support. Calling support means waiting over an hour. Finally got somebody and they mislead me, almost causing thousands of dollars of loss (tax implications of transferring ROTH to regular IRA). I have seen many other comments since with the same complaint. They obviously are making it as difficult as possible to take your money out after leaving the employer. My accounts were locked without prior notice as to why. Online support is non existent - the response to secure messages is 48h later they ask you to call the support number. The support number as many people note is a nightmare - long holds, frequent disconnections, and no call backs. I was told that my email was missing from the system, how? when I have received frequent emails. Then next the issue was apparently that they needed my driving license? This company can not get the information of my beneficiaries correctly! I have mailed back the forms with corrected information almost 10 times! I am locked out of my account and no one will help me. I am an elderly widow and am distraught over this!
It is unfair not to offer a rotten apple instead of one star. Vanguard has dwindled my money down the drain to less than when I signed my 401K in 2013 for my retirement. After my husband passed away five years ago they kept pressuring me to switch my 401K to a Brokerage Account, finally I did that and what a mistake it has been, one total nightmare after another, after six financial advisors at least that were either moved out or mostly fired I am now left with a heavy loss.
