Many years ago I had endocarditis I was at death's doorstep and a brilliant doctor and staff saved my life to this day I am blessed for the care that I got many times through the years
Apparently at the VA this sexually disgruntled woman in her mid-fifties who's a gs-7, is approached by someone who she does not know where he works at the VA shirt wearing a V8 shirt to stand there and wait because he's a brown man and then call the police on me to see about getting you removed from the emergency room and I needed treated for pain.
At home we've been taking care of dad for the last year. He turned 90 this year. He's legally blind, low hearing, plus has had a prosthetic leg since the 50's, after his return from fighting in Korea. Compared to the VA where dad lived before, here in Vancouver, and in Portland, he's been treated like a king. Can't complain. Even for an emergency visit we did on a Sunday. He was kept under observation for almost 5 hours, but with the best treatment possible.
Great car. well laid out. Great directions both verbal and written. Great view of Portland.
I take my 90 yr old father to the Portland VA for his specialty appointments, other than dental appts all specialist appointments take hours after your appointment time. For instance his appointment was scheduled at 2:30 he was not called into a room until 4:05 and finally saw the doctor for about a 15 minute visit at 4:20. Why is it Salem VA doesn't have any specialists a few times a week so these elderly and disabled people don't have to travel so far to wait for hours? I was vomiting uncontrollably and couldn't hold anything down. From the nice lady who touched my arm and told me to feel better at check- in, to the Drs and nurses around me, even the folks who pushed me from place to place to get tests taken, it seemed like everyone genuinely cared and wanted me to feel better. I ended up admitted and stayed the night. Between my shivers and meds and vitals, there must have been 12 people in there at different times making me better. Even though I've been a vet a long time this was my time having surgery at the VA everyone was excellent!!!very pleasant experience. Thanks to all the OR team, plastics team.no one knew I am also a VA employee and I was treated the same
