This Californian pub offers traditional bar food turned gourmet like Belgian ale-steamed mussels, wood grilled rib eye and a leek and goat cheese tart. Melrose hipsters usually go for the cheap-by-the-glass wine list and the boutique beer selection while locals go for the community table as it holds up to ten and naturally people stop in for people watching. Everything on the menu is freshly prepared and inexpensive considering the Melrose Avenue location. The Village Idiot is anything but idiotic and is perfect for a pleasa... read more

KEEP THE PLAGUE... AVOID THIS INSTEAD... – My friends and I enjoy trying new spots in L.A. and sampling good cuisine in this exciting town. Yes there have been some disappointments but this is the first time I have been moved to actually leave a review. When I decided to use the "Write a Review" option on CitySearch I clicked and clicked the white-space to the left of "1 STAR" in the hopes there was something there that would register "ZERO MINUS 5" which is more than this place deserves. Martha Burr I love you but you must'... read more
HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE HORRIBLE!!!! AVOID!! – This was such a horroble dissapointment. I owould give it ZERO STARS if I could. It took our party over an hour and a half to get a table at 10pm on a saturday night. We almost left several times, because even the wait by the bar was excruciating! But we thought we'd at least get a table and give this place a decent shot. The bar area was too crowded, there was no where to stand, good luck getting a drink and you couldn't hear anyone besides the huge noise of the crowd. When we final... read more
Not too shabby, nice bar actually – What a nice place to visit on a saturday afternoon, when it is not crowded with the trendsters. We had a lovely window seat and the cool breeze made it inviting to order some boddingtons and granny smith cider. Good people watching since Melrose is always filled with the wackiness specimens shopping for the newest vintage designer clothes. the mussles cooked in ale were delicious, not to mention the huge croutons that came with it. for more classical bar fare, there's always fish and chips... read more
Better food than I had while living in London! – I was really not expecting too much from this place because of some of the negative reviews, but I was definitely pleasantly suprised... this place is awesome. Everyone who we encountered that worked at Village Idiot was nice and our waitress was very attentive. I think the best part about this place, though was the food, it was amazing. I started with the butter lettuce/blue cheese/apple salad which was light, tasty, and had a great presentation. Next I had the cornmeal crust... read more
Such a disappointment – As an Englishman living close to Melrose I was very excited when I saw The Village Idiot being built. The idea of having a good local walking distance again was so appealing. When we went the first thing I noticed was that their 'notable beer list' isn't actually that notable. I have seen similar beer lists at lots of other restaurants and bars around town. Second of all is that their 'pint' glasses seem to have gone through the dryer one too many times - they are smaller than standard pint glasses an... read more
London meets LA with great style – This corner hideaway is the perfect place to frequent on Thursday evenings. The restaurant gets crowded around 7pm so it is best to arrive a little early if you want to catch a table without waiting. The savory food is reminiscent of the traditional London pubs with a modern twist. The desserts are delicious. The bar serves a wide range of international wine and a great selection of draft beers as well as hard liquors. The service is timely and the all staff members are welcoming and and ve... read more
Great place to relax with friends! – I love this bar...it is the perfect place to meet friends and have a good beer! good food, good service and good atmosphere!
Trendy Bar – Cool and trendy bar scene. They were very busy when we got there and it took a while for a bartender to get to us when we sat at the bar, but when a bartender actually saw us she made sure that we felt taken care of and she was super friendly and nice. The food was ok, but we didn't really go there for the food anyway. The vibe is very cool and young. A cool place to grab a drink before dinner or a movie.
The English Aren't Known for Their Food For A REASON!!!! – I went with a friend of mine on a friday evening. First, the accoustics were TERRIBLE. We were sitting across from each other and were shouting just to hear one another. On top of that the "music" was terrible and was just a steady beat the entire time. The bartender was average at best and really nothing to write home about. We had already eatten dinner but from what we saw, it looked awful...again the English aren't well known for their cooking for a very good reas... read more
