About this business

This Californian pub offers traditional bar food turned gourmet like Belgian ale-steamed mussels, wood grilled rib eye and a leek and goat cheese tart. Melrose hipsters usually go for the cheap-by-the-glass wine list and the boutique beer selection while locals go for the community table as it holds up to ten and naturally people stop in for people watching. Everything on the menu is freshly prepared and inexpensive considering the Melrose Avenue location. The Village Idiot is anything but idiotic and is perfect for a pleasa... read more

Unexpected find on Melrose. – This place was recommended by someone we knew. Very casual yet classy. I had the soup of the day which was delicious. And with my Boddingtons, I had some fish and chips. the fish was cooked very nicely and was not too fried or greasy tasting as some other pubs in the Los Angeles area. The mood was nice and social. And it is close to home, so this is another place I will be going back to.

Really surpised my picky taste! Great Food! – A friend of mine from LA recommened the Village Idiot for laaid (sorry city search wouldn' t allow me to spell correctly) back bite to eat. When I walked in, my friend who was with me was a bit sceptical too since being from NY we both are snobby when it comes to restaurants....it's all about the food! We had catfish and fish and chips (halibut and fries). The catfish was AWESOME and seasoned to perfection. The halibut was so light and flakey. The food and the drinks were great. ... read more

They are no idiots, trust me! A GREAT Time had by All! – This spot was perfect for my fun bunch of friends. When we go out we look for a good time and if we can't find one, we create it. Fortunately, The Village Idiot took care of the work for us. We waited a while for our table which was fine because it gave us a chance to check out the joint and what they've done with the place - hats off - it's a great room!. Also, we had an opportunity to people watch which is always fun in LA - when you're in a cool joint. The room was ... read more

Can't wait to return for another great night! The V.I hits on all cylidars! – Life is all about choices - especially in cities like L.A. If you want it you can get it in L.A. We now have a fantastic new choice to consider. At The Village Idiot, you get a great room, with a great mix of people - crossing many demographics - with a great ambiance both in the main front room, where the pleasant staff make drinks for you behind the centrally located bar or the very exposed kitchen fires up your food to order - there's no hiding ... read more

Good for Drinks Only!! – I never heard of this place but when I left I know why now. I went there for a party to have dinner and some drinks. I started off with a salad that had way too much pepper that I felt as if I was going to choke and it had no taste other than the pepper. I then ordered the rib-eye as the waiter said it was a dish to try. When I started to eat the rib-eye I thought to myself this place serves the worst food. I thought alright I will try some desert and see if they could get that right, and sure enough... read more

Perfect Melrose hang – More new restaurants should be like the Village Idiot. There is enough room, it's moderately quite, spacious and the food and wine list are out of sight. The service was really accomodating as well. Even if you aren't shoping Melrose it's worth the drive there.

the village idiot is aptly named! – i knew that the village idiot was crowded so i fully expected a long wait to be seated. once we got seated, it all went downhill. after ordering, it took half an hour for our salads to come out. one salad was literally lettuce and vinagrette...i doubt this took 30 minutes to make. after the salad plates were cleared from our table, the main course took another 30 minutes to come out. i didn't order a salad so i waited 1 hour for my food. everyone else in the restaurant had been there for a... read more

Nope. – The seating is bizarre and too small to make it cozy when the ceilings are cathedral like. When it gets crowded, you end up with your body over someone's lilliputian sized table. If you get lucky and get a window seat, it's slightly a better deal, but the cushions are not very comfy. The "pub" atmosphere just does not exist and much like others have said, the food was average and the drinks -- dixie cups. Neighborhood bar? NOT. Not even close. Attractive to people coming thru town? Probably.

Great Place for a beer and Food – What I had? Salad with a lemon caper dressing. Grilled Pork Sausage topped with caramelized onions. I thought the ambiance was great, very inviting. When I walked in I could see everything. Very open. Chefs looked professional and clean. The bar was amazing. I was told that it was hand crafted by a local carpenter. There are no reservations so it makes you feel like your at home. Just walk in and sit down. The owners are on top of it and are very helpful and well acknowledged. The food I tho... read more
