The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

Classy bbq. Skimpy on the brisket but it was good. Baby backs and pulled pork perfect portions. Biggest slice of cake I've ever seen!
My family and I ate here for the first time today. The food was amazing! We will definitely go back.
Terrible staff and manager. Went with my friends for dinner and my friend choked on a bone that was on his chopped pork(!!!) the staff completely ignored us and did NOT even call the ambulance. The MANAGER hid and then just came and said didn't know it was serious!!! (After the ambulance came) They charged us with the bill even it was completely their fault and they said they will void it but they void a completely different tables check !!! i don't know about you but i am never going back to this place with such a horrible ... read more
Awesome. Smelled good from the outside. They weren't super busy, came as a party of 2. We requested a booth and they were able to provide. Got our drinks fast and food fast! I ordered BBQ chicken and it was good. The mac and cheese was the star of a the show though, I keep thinking about it. Sooo good. My friend got the ribs and said they were delicious. All in all we'll definitely be back!
AWESOME is the word I would use to describe my expirience!! We traveled from Greenville to the pit and it was amazing! For starters we were not excited about trying to find a park, only to discover they had complimentary valet parking. We were greeted with warmth and a smile. My party of four got the family style meal. Apps were deviled eggs and soul rolls. Never heard of soul rolls but they were delicious!! For our entree' we had the baby back ribs and chicken sides were mac and cheese and collards and it was amazing!!! Our... read more
Staff was sound but the BBQ itself was ok. Pork very average . Mc cheese bites was good and egg roll things was bang on
Nice atmosphere and excellent food! A bit too cooled down inside but it could be just me not used to it!
Great atmosphere , service was good but from the price you expect the food to be at least hot . The fried chicken wasn't the best and the okra was soggy . Tasted like it had been sitting out all day under a heat lamp.
This is THE best BBQ you will ever have at a restaurant. Southern comfort food at its finest at a price you cannot beat for the quality and taste of food with a pretty lively atmosphere. This was our first visit to this location (previously went to the Durham location). Quite busy on a Saturday night. But the friendly and helpful staff helps people get in and out with great efficiency but does not make the seated customer feel rushed. Definitely a must try !!!
