The Pit

About this business

The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

Brisket was really good, as were the hush puppies, biscuits, and the soul tacos. The wings would have been really good too, but had not a drop of seasoning on them.

Was in Raleigh to see The Nutcracker, thought we would try The Pit as some friends as told us about it. Our server was excellent, the hush puppies and biscuit were great. The pimento cheese balls were amazing. But.... the main course, my husband and I being from Texas of course ordered the So called Texas style brisket. It was a big disappointment. It tasted like the roast I cook for Sundays. No smoke or BBQ flavor at all. My daughter had the fried catfish and it was good. Will not be on our agenda to come back

Absolutely one of the best places I've been to in the area. The atmosphere was great. The service spectacular. And the food to die for. Best BBQ I've had in a long time. The sides had tons of flavor. And the price was not what I expected. You walk in expecting 5 star prices and get surprised with everyday prices. Great tap list and even my dessert was amazing. I will certainly make a point to drive to Raleigh even if it's just to eat here. Well worth the hour and a half trip.

The food was amazing. Fried chicken can't be beat. The pulled pork is delicious. Yummy hush puppies and slaw! I can't say enough about the amazing food. You gotta try the fried mac and cheese.
