The Pit

About this business

The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

Considering this place got over 2,100 reviews on Yelp, I was expecting to say OMG after every bite. Instead, I was saying OMG, how did this place get over 2,100 reviews. The fried okra was really good as were the biscuits and little hush puppies they brought out. The chopped BBQ was decent. Had to put a lot of sauce on it. I did li... read more

I've been eating NC barbecue all my life and your chopped pork barbecue is this best I ever had! (Please don't tell my friends at Wilbur's, in Goldsboro, that I said that.)

Our first time here and didn’t know what to expect. Brought a group of college kids to celebrate my son’s 19th birthday. Parking was a bit difficult but some in our group took advantage of the valet service and were pleased with it. We all loved the hush puppies and biscuits. We had several different dishes and sides and we were all very pleased. I loved the turkey bbq as I don’t eat pork I was pleased to see it in the menu. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Some of the other waitstaff not so friendly including the host... read more
