Located downtown near the University of Alabama-Birmingham and its medical center, the Fish Market is the cheapest and possibly the best seafood restaurant in Birmingham. The owners are from Greece, so the self-service dining area is decorated with Greek photos and artwork. There is a small grocery area and of course, a fish market. The food is fresh, and the portions large. Be prepared for a crowd at any given time; this place is an unbeatable value and that's a well-known fact.

Have not been here in many years, but decided to try this restaurant again because I had a craving for one of my favorite seafood dishes-fried snapper. Having recently moved bsck home from living and working on the Gulf coast, I know that the seafood in this place is always fresh and high quality, because much of it is sourced from the Gulf. The food was good, although I ordered Cajun fried catfish, wasn't much Cajun to it, but it was ok; prices ok; atmosphere was layed back and enjoyable. My only complaint really is the facilities; the men's restroom was absolutely filthy.

This is why we have so many condiments on the tables! We have someone checking on the other issue right now and we appreciate your pointing this out.
Almost always delicious! Yesterday was a rare exception in that my fave stuffed salmon was priced as a dinner item but delivered short of the usual portion, lacked its usual flavor/generous varied ingredients and my pal and I had to wait forever to receive our entrees after salads (25 minutes). What?

Nice atmosphere and good potential if you stick to grilled fish and avoid the field offerings you will like it better.
I always say that when I get married or want to take a person out for a relaxing, comfortable and impressive place to dine..I would impress, whom I need to impress, by taking them to The Fish Market Southside.
