Located downtown near the University of Alabama-Birmingham and its medical center, the Fish Market is the cheapest and possibly the best seafood restaurant in Birmingham. The owners are from Greece, so the self-service dining area is decorated with Greek photos and artwork. There is a small grocery area and of course, a fish market. The food is fresh, and the portions large. Be prepared for a crowd at any given time; this place is an unbeatable value and that's a well-known fact.

Great place for lunch. Also just a short walk from the Kirklin Center so grab a bite after you visit your doctor.
Normally I rate them with 5 stars. This last trip was the worst. I ordered the platter. It comes with fish, shrimp, scallops and oysters. I ordered it grilled with very little seasoning and replace oysters with extra scallops. When it came out it had so much seasoning it couldn't be eaten. I spoke with a manager and explained the situation to him. He said he would redo it. I asked him to put no seasoning on it. When it came out it was a disgusting mess on my plate. Just suggestion on the seasoning of food, I live in Ohio and even tho some of my family come there regularly, my kids and I was the first to arrive at a birthday party for my Dad and didn't know you had to ask for the seasoning when you ordered! I ordered catfish and my brother placed a order for a mix of fried fish . It was fried beautifully but not tasty at all. The food was very good and the service was top-notch! The menu is extensive at an affordable price for seafood! I would recommend anyone to try it for themselves!
The fish market is a Birmingham jewel. The food is fresh and authentic. It's culture and dining helps make downtown birmingham great.
