Awesome Tacos, Awesome Place. Know the Quirks. – First of all, the food here is great! If you ever have the opportunity to get the Nutty Shrimp special taco, don't turn it down. It only comes around once every 8-10 weeks or so. Some regular menu items that are great: Chicken, Memphis and Carnitas Tacos. If you ever see the Low Country Chicken as the Chef's Special GET IT. So good, just the best kind of comfort food. Chicken enchilada with lemon creme is the best combination of the enchiladas and sauces in my opinion. Ok, so ... read more
Great Texas Margarita's & The Taco Sargent! – We've being going here for a number of years, and the format has officially changed to that of it's sister restaurant's, Taqueria Del Sol! We always just go and sit at the bar with George, the Taco Sargent/Manager/Bartender! What a scream! If you don't have a sense of humor, you might be offended. He make's without a doubt, the best Texas Margarita in the ATL! He raises that eyebrow, tighten's that little mustach, and get's that smirk on his face. You can't take him seriously! Su... read more
Get some anger management, Taqueria! – OK, now I believe it. After years (10 or so) of dining at Sundown, then Taqueria on the west side, and now in Decatur, hubby and I have spent a gazillion dollars on food and adult beverages there. Stories of their rudeness-by-design amused me. I assumed the tellers of those tales just didn't know how to follow the rules. (This is a cautionary tale, but the grandmother-on-walker story wins the prize. Don't take Grandma!) Hubby and I had a seat at the bar, ordered margaritas and guac/sals... read more
Wish I could love this Place...but! – This place could be so much fun. The wait in line is a time to talk with the folks you came with and to look around (generally see someone we know), the food is good (not great), well the corn chowder is wonderful, but it is all well worth the $ and the margaritas have a good kick to them. I even enjoy the industrial decor, it works. The problem is the ordering/seating/push to get people out the door mode of operation has evidently turned the staff into very cynical, rude folks who don't... read more
WHY CLOSED FOR LUNCH ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY – Last Saturday my friend and I went to the midtown Taqueria del Sol for lunch...only to be highly disappointed by the long long serpent of ta line streched out into parking lot. Hung over and craving....some good TEX-MEX food fast....I quickly remember that Sundown Cafe wasn't to far away and served exactly the same recipes. Alas! They are closed on Saturday and Sundays....are they crazy? When else do folks have time to linger and enjoy such fine TEXMEX delicasies. Get with it Sun... read more
Taqueria is the best in many ways – Taqueria del sol is a unique mexican dining experience. They have a standard menu and nightly specials. Some of the specials are very creative, like calamari tacos. The price is great, the food is great, the margaritas are great. I love the fried chicken tacos and the chicken enchiladas with lemon creme sauce. If you haven't tried it, you should. I recently moved and was pleased to discover Taqueria Sundown cafe just around the corner from me, so I won't have to drive all the way back to d... read more
very tasty tacos – The line here can be long, but it's worth the wait. Personally I appreciate the fact that you don't get a table until you order. That way I can relax and not worry that someone will fill them all before I get my food. I probably wouldn't bring children here during the busy times unless they are very patient. My husband and I have eaten here many times and haven't experienced any rudeness form the staff.
great food, low prices. worth the wait. – Yes, there are long lines at the Howell Mill Taqueria. That's because it's GOOD. Yes, you can't sit before you order your food. That just makes sense, there would be no seats for people with food - because the place is crowded, again, because it's GOOD. I highly recommend Taqueria - the shrimp corn chowder is to die for, and the tacos are wonderful. It is not good for large parties, and it is not great for kids. But it is a great place for two or three people to enjoy wonderful guaca... read more
Good food for little $$ – Sundown is now running like Taqueria Del Sol, so you do stand in line to order, but once you order the food arrives fast ... the food is generally flavorful, the turnip greens and shrip corn chowder are both stand outs. Unlike the sister location, the Taqueria off Howell Mill, with service that can only be called surly at best, the staff at Taqueria Sundown is down right cheerful in comparison .. hi George. True, if the line is long, the wait to order can be daunting, but that's more because people ... read more
