Dr Hughes performed Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) surgery on my C5/C6 and C6/C7 vertebrae in early April. I was a first time surgical patient and was apprehensive about getting the procedure. I came to Dr. Hughes with shooting pain/tingling in my right arm, and numbness in my right index finger. Dr. Hughes and his staff did a great job of explaining my ailment and how the surgery would correct the problem. To complicate matters, my procedure was scheduled during the height of the Coronavirus crisis. My condi... read more

I had previous surgery by Dr. Hughes, a double laminectomy and spinal fusion. My recovery went very well. That was 9 years ago. I now have a separate issue with my back. Dr. Hughes clearly explained what he thought to be my problem. He has ordered an MRI and CT scan, which will a better picture of what is wrong. I’m glad to have Dr. Hughes treating me again.

Dr. Hughes showed he was familiar with my case and discussed options with me in a way that was easily understandable. He took time to make sure he covered all my questions, and treated me with care and respect. I would recommend him to anyone who wants careful, conservative, and comprehensive spine care.

On 3/15/19, I was biking up a hill & pushed hard on the left pedal. Something popped in my lower back causing intense pain. I almost fell off and had to take a pain reliever to even straighten up. On 6/12, Steven took X-rays and recommended cortisone injections. On another Dr's advice, I got an MRI in July, which showed herniated discs between L4-L5 and L5-S1 that were impinging on the spinal cord! I had 2 shots w/o relief. On 9/12/19, Steven said: 1) I didn't need more shots and was fine (even though I had intense back & le... read more

Dr. Hughes apologized for the long wait time (over an hour), excellently explained my condition, prognosis, treatment options to avoid surgery, and clearly answered all my questions.

A week away from surgery and he is polite and respectful. He doesn't cut unless he must! Two very highly respected specialists in Neurology both recommended him. He is worth the wait, he takes his time

What a phenomenal practice! Dr Hughes is highly talented and an expert surgeon, to see how well his surgery corrected months of pain and aggravation, is remarkable! Thank you!

This was a follow up after two visits to Spine & Health for epidurals in the C4 area. I have another injury in my shoulder from the same fall. Dr. Hughes doesn't rush to surgery so he instructed me get the shoulder fixed first before making a decision on the neck.
