Get over yourselves! – I would love to be able to write a review of this restaurant with some first hand knowledge of the food but unfortunately my wife and I were refused at the door! We had a reservation but due to uncontrollable circumstances we arrived a little late. Even though we politely explained, the hostess was incredibly rude to us. She told us our table had been given away and we had to leave immediately. But there were three empty tables right in front of us! I cant count how many times restaurants have made us ... read more
Absolutely fabulous! – I'm completely SHOCKED by some of the reviews on this site, many obviously written by people from the same party, as someone mentioned before. We have been to Pumpkin more times than I can count, and have never been disappointed! The food is always fantastic (you've got to try the scallops!) and the atmosphere is comfortable yet classy, with candle-lighting and curtains. Nothing pompous about it, the tables are covered with simple butcher paper, which is barely even noticed when you're taking in the ad... read more
Sparkling or non-sparkling? – What irked us most was that the minute you sit down they ask you if you'd like sparkling or non-sparkling water. Since this is a BYOB and we had not brought anything, we assumed this was complimentary. Some BYOB's give you a glass of wine if you forget to bring wine so we assumed they did this instead. Well it appears not and it was more than $5. We would have been fine with this if they stated there was a charge but they did not. Finally we saw a waitress giving out tap water later in the eveni... read more
don't believe the hype – I was really excited to try Pumpkin after all the hype I read about in Philadelphia magazine. The decor was really cute but since it was small, it got quite noisy. The male waiter was super nice and accomidating, the woman waitress was eh. I went with my husband and another couple, we found the menu to be quite small and lacking choices. Both couples shared the prawn watermelon salad, which was mediocre but nothing special. The men got steak which they both really liked but the other female and I wen... read more
Manifique! – My boyfriend and I went to Pumpkin and had an amazing dining experience. You feel like your in the very small livingroom of your neighbor's house but all the furniture is gone. The service was unbelievably friendly, funny and helpful. They also let us dine without approaching us every 2 minutes and we dined for i think about 3.5 hours! The food was fabulous with an array of different options. The ambience was simple with just wood and accents of orange. Very unpretentious place, patrons and servers! The only dow... read more
Just what this neighborhood needs! – I was hesitant to give Pumpkin a try after all the bad reviews here, but now I'm glad I went to make up my own mind. Each dish that my date and I shared were wonderful, from the grilled romaine salad to a pan-fried salmon piled high with sweet-potato crisps. Oh, and the chocolate pot du creme was out of this world. Service was friendly and prompt--maybe just a tad *too* prompt, but then again we were walk-ins with no reservation, so I won't complain. I will gladly go back again to sample ... read more
Thought I was on MTV's Boiling Point! – When asked if we could have a few more minutes to review the menu, we were told by the waiter that we needed to stop "chatting" and focus on the menu because we were behind schedule. After confirming with my friend that I heard him correctly and that it was not a joke, I decided not to let him ruin our evening. When we asked if the "whole fish" could come filleted, he was quick to point out that "ladies, 'whole fish' means a WHOLE fish". I should have thanked him for my lesson in readi... read more
Overrated – Good food, But ...sparse, low-end atmosphere, brown paper over tablecloths, average service, cash only, cramped tables, hot food served in cold dishes (luke-warming the food instantly), bread served slice at a time, extremely limited menu - just 6 appetizers (3 of which are salads), and only 5 entrees - 3 of which were rabbit, pheasant, quail, no red meat, out of pheasant, sub with chicken, out of veal, sub with pork. And did I mention - Expensive? 2 simple apps, 2 entrees, one dessert - $70 plus tip. They had a ... read more
great food, great service – I find it hard to believe that some people here went to the same restaurant as me. My wife and I went there about a month ago (she's a vegetarian who doesn't like mushrooms) and she simply asked the chef what he could make for her, and they were very accomodating and made one of the better meals she's had in the city (and we dine out 2-3 times a month). My food was excellent as well, and although the space is a bit small (and hence a bit noisy) it wasn't bad on the Tuesday night we went - but I im... read more
