Best BYO in center city – I moved to Center City a year ago and made a conscious effort to eat at every BYO in the area this year. I have to say that Pumpkin is certainly at the top of the class if not at the very top. The menu is fresh, organic and seasonal, and the dishes are always artfully and thoughtfully composed. I have always found the waitstaff courteous and efficient and the friendly chef himself will always visit a table to discuss the food. I don't know what kinds of experiences the less-enthusiastic reviewers on... read more

Not worth the price – We dined at Pumpkin on 6/15/2007, and it was a mixed experience. First of all, it was a lot more expensive than I had anticipated. It is more of a $$$ rating than a $$ rating, as listed on citysearch. Tiny appetizers (2 scallops or 4 snails) were around $11, with main course ranging between $23-$26. Food quality was ok, but definitely not worth the price. My steak was chewy and fatty. Waiter almost spilled wine all over my clothes, and made a joke that I did it myself. Ambience was nice, cozy and relaxi... read more

This Pumpkin will not turn into a carriage and take you to the Ball. – Not really what every told me about or maybe they had a off night but, from start to finish was a car wreck. From waiting for a table to our food order being wrong. I hope next time things will be better, if there is a next time their.

One of the best restaurants in the city – I have gone to pumpkin for my birthday for the last 3 years and it is always amazing. Every time we go we order the entire menu. I have probably had over 60 different dishes that Pumpkin has served and only two of them were less than fantastic. I don't understand the reviews that rip on the food. If you only went once you don't have a good basis to judge and ripping on the number of menu options, price, or lack of vegetarian options is just silly; they only have 26 seats! The sweetbr... read more

Very Good – This is quite a little gem of a restaurant. Reservations are essential, as the place is very small, but not too terribly cramped. The service was quite good and knowledgable. Began with a terrific puff pastry with escargo and pork meatballs that was very tasty. The bass entree was well cooked and flavorful. All in all, highly recommended.

Good Find, typical experience for nice byob – We enjoyed our meal at Pumpkin, although it was a bit cramped as can be expected at a small BYOB in Philly and it was a bit noisy due to a large party seated next to our table. Our appetizers were very good, particularly the foie gras pate which was a very good size with delicious bread. Our entrees were also quite tasty and the salmon was cooked to perfection. The simple apple crisp dessert was also good if not particularly imaginative. We were seated promptly when we arrived an... read more

Surprised to see negative reviews! – I've eaten here several times and have always liked it. Amazed to see reviews that say anything bad. Their service can be a little pushy, but I never complain with that in a BYOB. They need to move tables along, and I understand that going in. Menu rotates all the time, and I like that. They are not breaking any culinary boundries here, but it's always consistent and good!

This South Street B.Y.O.B. features an ever-changing menu of mostly seafood dishes in a cozy neighborhood setting. – In Short The walls of this petite 28-seat neighborhood bistro are lined with candle-filled shelves, while the tiled dining room floor is kissed by flimy curtains trailing down from overhead pipes. Diners in the front can enjoy the large bay window; in the back, guests can view Chef Ian Moroney's open kitchen. Don't miss the scallops served on a bed of red peppers and escarole. The dinner menu changes daily, bu... read more
