Surprised to see negative reviews! – I've eaten here several times and have always liked it. Amazed to see reviews that say anything bad. Their service can be a little pushy, but I never complain with that in a BYOB. They need to move tables along, and I understand that going in. Menu rotates all the time, and I like that. They are not breaking any culinary boundries here, but it's always consistent and good!
This South Street B.Y.O.B. features an ever-changing menu of mostly seafood dishes in a cozy neighborhood setting. – In Short The walls of this petite 28-seat neighborhood bistro are lined with candle-filled shelves, while the tiled dining room floor is kissed by flimy curtains trailing down from overhead pipes. Diners in the front can enjoy the large bay window; in the back, guests can view Chef Ian Moroney's open kitchen. Don't miss the scallops served on a bed of red peppers and escarole. The dinner menu changes daily, bu... read more
what a joy – I had an joyful time celebrating my husband's birthday and sharing this event with our daughter who lives in Philadelphia...all our meals were excellent...the owner/ hostess was a delight... food and service areour equal to Union Square....we all look foward to future celebrations at Pumpkin!
Very Disappointing – The place is cute with great atmosphere. The service was warm and friendly (Tuesday night though) and the menu looked wonderful. Unfortunately the food was entirely pedestrian. A huge disappointment.
waste of money – what a disappointment. from the time we stepped in the door it was an unfriendly enviroment. we were basically meant to feel like they were doing us a favor by seating us in the half empty room bc we didn't make a reservation. the waitress was unattentive throughout the meal. the rabbit appitzer was tasteless. the salmon was boring. the "ice water" was warm and tasted like the faucet. the meal was overpriced for what you get. and it was interesting that although they made us feel like we were taking a future... read more
Delicious – Like many BYOs, this is a very small space. The food is divine. I though the prices were fair, and I had a steak that was the most delicious I've evern tasted. The servers were polite.
Celebrate We Will...Eat, Drink & Be Merry – Pumpkin is small and cute. Their menu is limited, but I was happy with what I ordered. A crispy salmon number that I cleaned my plate of. Their desserts are pretty great, too. Chocolate and hazelnuts! Don't forget to bring a nice bottle of wine and/or some beers. I also noticed most people were celebrating a birthday or anniversary.
NOT good for Vegetarians – My friend and I came here the first time and we got the most rude service just as we were being seating. Apparently, we did not have an rsvp and they looked as if they were shocked! The moment we looked at the menu--there was nothing vegetarian on it at all (my friend does not eat meat). We left with a tip on the table right away. A month later, I decide to try it again with my boyfriend. EVEN WORSE. The food had NO FLAVOR and was overpriced for what it was and the service was just all too pretenti... read more
A very pleasant experience – My husband and I went to Pumpkin with no expectations. INeither of us had read a single review beforehand. Since we dropped by on a weeknight a reservation was uncessessary, we were seated as soon as we arrived (around 6:30pm). The waitstaff was very pleasant and helpful, but not overly intrusive. We never felt rushed at any time. The space is small, and got lounder as more tables filled up. Our appetizers, steamed mussels in a white sauce and the grilled quail, were both excellent. For our entre... read more
