About this business

Specialties Pekin Insurance helps our customers build their dreams. Or rebuild their lives. We provide peace of mind and long-term security for our policyholders, shareholders, agents, and employees. History Established in 1921. It all began over 90 years ago, when a new Chevrolet cost $850, 40 mph was highway cruising speed, traffic jams and tailgating were unknown, and liquor was illegal. Not a bad year to start an automobile insurance company.

gave them one star but actually would give them 0 stars, we used them for home insurance. I put in a claim in for roof damage caused by wind earlier in the year but since I live in AZ and it doesn't rain often there, Didn't put the claim until months later and it was leaking bad. They denied the claim stating the roof was in bad condition due too maintenance and installed incorrectly. The roof was installed by a professional roofer about 9 years ago and has never leaked so they are full of it, any way stay away from this com... read more

It's amazing how companies today have no sense of customer loyalty or value. Instead, they place greater value on their internal accounting practices, payroll costs, external service fees, or inaptness before customers. In other words, they develop an attitude that it is always the customers fault when an error occurs and, therefore, the customer should be penalized. This attitude is very common in banking and insurance companies. Pekin is one of these companies. I had three policies with Pekin; auto, home, and umbrella. Pek... read more

We switched to Pekin because initially they offered a much lower rate overall for home and two autos combined... until we hit a deer (no fault in WI) and magically our rates went up... it also took nearly three months to get our 2017 pathfinder returned to us (hit deer oct.26, vehicle returned around January 10th). Multiple mistakes were made by their agent, they sent the estimate to the wrong repair shop... and NO one noticed. Unreal. Further- my contact and conversations with the agent attached to our claim were entirely u... read more

STAY AWAY FROM PEKING - My wife was hit (at fault by a Pekin Insured as noted in the accident report) and its been over a month... Pekin will not pay for the repairs to our vehicle. They are denying liability of their insured. We have to use our own insurance, pay our deductible (which we can not afford to do) and fight Pekin to get them to pay for their insured. This is a GARBAGE company and unless you want them to move slower than the government I would steer clear... The only think I can do is get another job (dont have t... read more

Attention Contractors. Pekin insurance is a total rip-off. They will take your money for awhile, then drop you with 0 claims. They change their internal rules for contractors year to year to rid liability. If you make one service call out of state, your dropped. Don't waste your money. There are a lot better and less expensive company's around. When they audit you, If you want to keep your coverage, I suggest you lie if you worked out of state. Try Other Insurance Companies. They will cover you out of state and out of the co... read more

Business response:

Hi Kevin. We are sorry that you are dissatisfied with our company. It is true that we closely underwrite the geographic exposure of contractors that we insure. There are a number of reasons for this. Two of the primary reasons are: (1) states have varying laws when it comes to insurance and claims settlement and (2) if you entered a state in which we don't actually write insurance then we do not have a staff of claims adjusters in that state making it difficult to adjust the claim. One thing we would strongly discourage is N... read more

Buyer beware. If you are even considering this insurance company, please stay away. We had some water damage caused by an A/C technician. The company's insurance (Pekin) was then called to take care of the damage the technician caused. We have been fighting for over a month just to get someone to physically assess the damage. The first offer to repair was just to patch holes left from the water restoration company. The next offer was to only patch one area of a ceiling, possibly making the area look even worse. Even the cont... read more

Business response:

This loss was turned into us on 06/13/18 and occurred on 06/11/18. Our Claim Representative contacted the complainant on 06/13/18. Our investigation concluded that our insured was liable for the damages to the complainant’s home. At the onset of the claim process there was a dispute with the repairs necessary to settle the loss. Since this complaint was filed, we have since sent out a Field Adjuster to inspect the loss. This Adjuster has come to an agreement on the cost to complete the repairs that are necessary. This compla... read more

I had an accident back in December, and Pekin was the insurance company for the person that hit me from behind. I was extremely impressed with Pekin, and how they handled the claim for the other driver. They did not delay at all, and contacted me several times to make sure that I was O.K. and that I had the information necessary. I was so impressed with Pekin that I am now very interested in becoming a customer, and will be getting some quotes soon.

Business response:

Thank you for your kind comments. We look forward to having you as a customer!

Words of warning for those who are considering obtaining Home Owners Insurance from Pekin. We have submitted a claim following additional repairs last October after the adjuster had already seen previous damage and had not seen the removal of the Plantation shutters due to water damage in the sheet rock walls from a storm in July. This claim was submitted in October 2017 and we heard nothing back. They were then turned into the BBB and they also heard nothing back. Presently we are out $500 for the reinstallation of Plantati... read more

Business response:

In investigating this complaint we found that the claim was being handled by an adjuster who is no longer with our company. Unfortunately, when the adjuster left our company the file was not properly transferred to another adjuster. We have already reached out to the policyholder and issued the proper payment. We apologize for the inconvenience. You can definitely expect better out of us in the future.

I had my business insured with Pekin. Their company and payroll based insurance is a pain in the rear to deal with to say the least. I'm no insurance expert, but the logic makes absolutely no sense. I estimate what my payroll will be for the year and they charge accordingly. After the year has past they perform an audit. After the audit they say I owe them more money because my payroll was more than estimated. How is it that after the year has past with absolutely no commercial claims it's okay to come back after the fact an... read more

Business response:

Mr Luck - we are sorry to hear of your disappointment in our company. The premium for your liability policy with us is based on payroll. As you mentioned the initial premium is based on an estimate of payroll. We then perform the audit to confirm the correct premium was paid. Just as you were charged for an increase in payroll you would have received a refund had the payroll reduced. Regarding the billing of the audit premium ... we appreciate your input and will look to see if this is possible in the future.
