restaurant At first glance Pal's Shanty doesn't look like much on the outside. It's an older, rustic looking restaurant. Inside it looks like it would be right at home in one of the smaller towns of central or eastern Oregon. Comfortable, family friendly atmosphere. They specialize in seafood at reasonable prices. The ahi sandwich comes with a thick hunk of tuna cooked to your preference and enough wasabi to make your eyes water. Haven't been there for dinner, but makes a great casual place for lunch.

Disgusting and disappointing – I've lived in the neighborhood a few years and kept hearing about Pal's Shanty. I'm not curious anymore. We went on a Friday and it seeemd like a typical tavern in a vacation town. Kind of divey, but that's ok. The restaurant was so smoky (it is non smoking but there does not seem to be any ventilation in kitchen) that my eyes were watering and burning. My clothes stunk like I'd worked a shift at Burger King. I had the $18 crab cake dinner. It was edible and seemed to have a lump of real dungen... read more

Absolutely the Worst Service Ever! – From the moment we walked in and sat down, our waitress was extremely rude. No smile, no hello, not even a hint of a friendly tone. At my family's request I stayed for dinner. Unfortunately, her negative attitude and behavior did not improve during the meal, it, in fact, worsened. The overpriced but okay seafood dinner did not even come close to making up for the poor treatment my whole family received. I would not even recommend this "restaurant" to my enemies.

Get a great big bucket of steamed clams! – The first time I came to Pal's Shanty was on August 4, 1981. It was my birthday and I was 4 months pregnant. 21 years later I brought my son here for his 21st birthday. We love getting the big bucket of steamed clams! We'll be there tonight to celebrate my birthday. We come here for special occaisions!

A Dive with Soul – Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. Great spot for out-of-town visitors looking for a great NW experience . . . friendly service, relaxed atmosphere and terrific seafood. The smoked seafood chowder is some of the best I've had. Don't get me started on the Crab Louis!

Shooters and Stuff – I ate at Pal's Shanty for the first time last weekend, and they had the best oyster shooters that I have had on the West Coast. I would also highly recommend the seafood and clam chowder, the crab louie's, and the buckets of steamed clams. Prices range from $7-$17 for entrees and fresh fish is based on market price. It is a tavern, so the atmosphere is laid-back and noisy, but not in an overbearing way. Two thumbs up.

The Best C-food – We fly into Portland just for the seafood at Pal's. It's a relaxed tavern atmosphere where you can get the best seafood without a dress code. I can't believe people think Red Lobster with their high priced breaded seafood even competes with fresh seafood like what you get at Pal's or even Saltys. Super clams even in the off season. A bite of crab in every bite of the Crab Louis, big chunks of crab. The Northwest's best kept secret.

confused – Good seafood chowder for $3. I've read some rave reviews regarding portions, but six tiny catfish bites for $6.50 was a ripoff. Can't wait to try other specialties. Service was friendly.

Pal's is the shiznit! – I love this little gem of an establishment! I would dine there daily if I could. Unfortunately, I have to work, so I can't. Food? Fabulous. Sevice? Absolutely impeccable! If you don't go check this place out, you, my friend are a lunatic!!!!
