Eat here...run to the bathroom later – Ok...so I know its the ex-mayor's place...and he can have me taken out...but really the only thing I have noticed since coming here over the years, is the dramatic price hike. Mediocrity is the theme here--bland is another.
Simply the best – Thick bacon, the best hash browns and a seat at the counter makes for the perfect breakfast. The coffe is not half bad either. I forgot to mention the sour dough. All this at 4am. I feel stuffed just thinking about it.
quiche-quiche-COO – No quiche, but who cares! This place is what it is. Anybody who thinks different should not go there. I have been going since 1962 and now live in the desert and miss it a lot. Have got to get back soon. A real part of history in ole L A. Tops all the rest of LA breakfast spots. Dont forget the Slaw, as it is the best. Even standing in line is a part of the ambiance. Dicky, Thanks for saving this place for history's sale. Take the kids and sit at the community table. May it live forever......
Go if you want dense pancakes!! – At 9:30am on Sunday, the line was already out the door and half a block long. I thought the food must be super duper good. Not. The pancakes were heavy, and since they do not serve waffles or french toasts, your stuck. the meal was cheap, but you get what you paid for. The portion is super sized. the pancakes were about 10 inches in diameter! If only it tasted good. I would never return to this place unless I was starving and broke. Uh... with this economy, I just might have to eat my own wo... read more
steak + eggs--ANYTIME!! – My absolutely favorite 24 hour restaurant. My boyfriend and I started a new tradition for New Years, this past year--STeaks at the Pantry at Midnight!!! Better than an expensive club, more satisfying than a paper party hat.
Great Breakfast – Tried this place for the first time and loved the food (breakfast). The food is not for the health conscience, but it sure was tasty. This place does not serve haute cuisine, so those that demand high end decorations and gushing servers would probably not care for this place. As some of the previous reviewers stated here though, if you like hearty portions of down-home cooking, this place is worth a try.
Breakfast? You gotta be kidding! – Hands-down, the WORST pancakes ever. They're more like some sort of strange, omni-absorbent disk than the breafast staple we all recall. The Pantry version suck up syrup so fast, they put the "quicker-picker-upper" to shame. Their only hope: an oil spill at the corner of Figueroa & 9th, where at last they might find their true calling. (Lunch and Dinner are far better choices.)
ONLY FOR BREAKFAST!! – If you go here latenite, it should only be for breakfast, their other items are not all that good.
Go for the history, not the food – Having heard about The Pantry for years, I decided to try it for lunch one day. The place looks like something straight out of the '40s, I really appreciated the look and feel of the place, but the food was terrible! Perhaps I should have opted for a more traditional (and safer) sandwich, but I ordered salmon and vegetables and it was fairly similar to airplane food. The veggies seemed canned and tasted liked they'd been soaking in water for days. The fish was so overcooked and salty and I ... read more
