Best Pancakes in Town – I have to say Pantry is the definite place for Breakfast. I love the pancakes. The portions are big you can definitely share. The sourdough toast is good too. Must Try
BEST BREAKFAST IN L.A. – Our Sunday morning tradtion has continued for over 20 years. The food is a bit greasy but it's still the best breakfast in the city.
Living History – The usual rating categories do not do justice to the peculiar value of The Original Pantry. The food's not that great, and the portion size/price ratio is not what it used to be, but you still get a substantial square meal, divorced from current trends regarding carbs, fat content, etc., and it's there 24/7, 365 days a year, period. Regardless of holidays or any time of day or night, you don't have to wonder whether it's open. If you are hungry and within reach of downtown, there's a hot meal waiting. Beyond... read more
best Breakfast in L.A. – We've been eating here for 25 years. It's greasy, too crowded and there is always a line to get in. Saying that, life wouldn't be the same without a monthly stop to the Original Pantry.
stupid dirty diner – There are a ton of good diners in LA and the Original Pantry is not one of them. This place survivies on nostalgia. You get plenty of food but no one could possibly eat so much bad tasting food. The quality of the food is very poor. The prices are too high for the slop they serve. They don't score positives with their service either. The only positive is the old time building and diner decor. But I like to go to diners for hearty good tasting food not decor.
Greasy..........but Good! – The pantry is one of the bigger grease pits in LA. However, to me, greasy food is good (not good for you). Plus, there's just an aura about this place.......a one-of-a-kind dive! I usually hit The Pantry after a night at the Standard or for breakfast. I've eaten breakfast at SO many spots in the world, and I'm yet to find pancakes with a better consistency than the Pantry's! For a shorter wait (breakfast), forget the original Pantry and head next door to the bakery. The menu items are the same, bu... read more
Back in time! – Just by looking at the servers, the place took me back in time. Me and some friends got out of The Mayan Club and we headed straight down The Pantry without hesitation! It was good old fashion food. I had pork chop, the roasted potatoes that came with it was down right tasty. Due back anytime now....haven't been back since that night in '95 (talking about "back in time", am I kidding me???)
The Worst Place In Town (It's SO Bad!) – The Pantry boasts a dingy atmosphere, grumpy waiters and a mystifying popularity. The laudable draw of this dive can only be explained by a complete lack of olfactory sensitivity on the part of its patrons. The meat tasted like it had been sitting in a salt mine for twelve years. (I was drinking water like crazy the next day.) The veggies - devoid of any appetizing flavor or color - exuded a faint metallic odor. (I enjoy the occasional greasy spoon, but PLEASE give me food that doesn'... read more
Great Breakfasts – I really love the Pantry. It's not gourmet but you get a lot of great food for your money. The sourdough toast, the potatoes and the ham slab & eggs are the best. There may be fancier, yuppier and trendier places to go for breakfast but you still have to wait in line at the Pantry.
