Go for the bread! – So there are some reviews here that are less than savory, BUT IT'S A DINER...remember that. It's a diner, but isn't that why you went? Yes, you will wait in line outside. Yes, it is cramped inside. Yes, the food is greasy, but it's a diner! BUT here is why you go: OMG! Go for the sourdough that they make fresh daily. It is amazing! And if you are going for breakfast (the only time I ever go), ask for the sourdough to be toasted. If you are going because you think you are special, stay home. If you want to... read more
Overated – Sure the ambience is kitchy and nostalgic, but the food is underwhelming and expensive. They make you pay for cole slaw you didn't order unless you order a full entree. The food is large in portion and lacking in quality. You can't even order a burger without getting unwanted onions chopped up and mixed in. And to top it off, it's expensive for greasy spoon diner food. I'd much rather go down the street to Denny's where there's not a huge line, they don't force cole slaw down my throat, and I can pay with a credit... read more
Great Breakfast – Okay, I'm biased because I've been going to the pantry for the last 35 plus years. I'm a regular for Sunday breakfast and even have a favorite waiter. Although I've been brainwashed for so many years, I have to admit that in my travels, I still rank the Pantry as one of the best breakfast places in the US. The portions are great and you cant beat their sourdough toast. The hash browns are excellent. Yeah, this place may be overhyped but it is what it is, an old fashioned coffee shop that hasn't really chang... read more
Lousy Service, overrated food – We came here after a museum visit---no line on a Saturday afternoon, and we sat down and ordered coffee and pie. The waiter became extremely unfriendly when he heard that we weren't ordering full meals. A bit baffling; the place wasn't full, there's no minimum printed on the menu, there was no one waiting and we weren't inconveniencing anyone else who might want to sit down. The food itself was bland and greasy and the coffee was standard dishwater greasy-spoon swill. The bad attitude of the w... read more
Feel like home – I love this place, not only this place serves great food but i had some fun time over there. You walk in there like your walkin in an old american diner, you feel american in that place old school, steaks r good , breakfast is delecious, defenetly a goer, i will always go to that place, service is awsome, just beautifull, you wouldn't like it at 3 am but for a group of big boys like us i love goin there at that time.
Blech. – Came back here after I remembered going with my mom when I was younger. Uch! I should have stuck with the older, happier memory. The steaks were tough and unseasoned. I don't mind bare bones menus, but there isn't anything worth eating here. There's nothing really cooked. They just throw the meat on a hot surface and put it on your plate. Forget about it. For real lunch line history and cheap eats, go to Phillipe's.
Great comfort food hits the spot! – Great late night dining and variety of food on the menu. this place gets crowded at the 2am hour after everyone is done with their late-night partying! A great spot for everyone to get together and hangout and eat some great comfort food. Just don't eat here if you're on a diet!
Late Night Lard Fix – Fatty, funky, and bustling - what more could you want to satisfy a late night chesse omelette craving? My friends and I used to go all the time after midnight, when they start serving breakfast again, to get huge, cheap plates of pancakes, ham and cheese omelettes, sourdough toast, and coleslaw. Brunches are crazy with long lines out the door, so I recommend late night. Be sure to tip your waiter generously, these guys work HARD and will do anything to get your order right. And the food is dirt cheap, s... read more
Plenty of character – The menu appears in various places along the wall, although it doesn't include the 24-hour breakfast I've heard about. Fast service (at least at 8:30 p.m. on a Friday) and a unique atmosphere make the place stand out. The Boston clam chowder was quite good, although the Philly cheese steak sandwich was a bit dry.
