Standing a little away from Portland's bustling city center, Nostrana serves up honest regional Italian fare in a warm and welcoming setting. The restaurant's outdoor facade is fairly simple. Step in, and you'll be pleasantly surprised at what they've done with the place. Clean lines, lots of woods, ceiling mounted fans, large decorative plants and some great lighting choices give the place, a very charming feel. Choose from a limited, but well-crafted menu of regional Italian specialties made using the freshest local, seaso... read more

OK - but best restaurant in PDX? No. – We had wanted to try Nostrana ever since reading the "Restaurant of the Year" article a year ago. We finally made it last night with another couple. After reading the recent reviews on Citysearch I was worried. Our experience was not nearly as bad as others have expressed - but it does not deserve a "best" rating. The atmosphere is great and we were seated right away by a nice hostess. The ladies startes with cocktails (no specialties - just their normal favorites) and they enjoyed them... read more
Nostrona is no Genoa -- get over yourselves – We went there once after the restaurant of the year award and were underwhelmed with the food and the service. Seems that the manager is more interested in rules and policies than customer service. The first time, we were there before the rest of our party and, though we were the ONLY people in the whole place, we had to work at getting them to seat us (so we could start drinking). After that, I asked for some garlic to be added to my Pizza and was told there were no substitution... read more
Overrated – Went to Nostrana recently and was pretty dissapointed. The menu was weak, I mean a former restaurant of the year and half the menu is pizza, who does these reviews? Two steak options, one in which they were out of and the other cost $60, as well as out of gnoucci & out of their hen dish, leaving virtually nothing on the menu. I work in a restaurant so i can be fairly forgiving and understanding but they tell us they are out of these things after we've ordered and bring our appetizer and wine anyway with no apolog... read more
try it for yourself – I wasn't excited to meet my friends at Nostrana for dinner last night. after reading the reviews. But now I can't wait to take my family there. We had a large range of food at out table, salad, pizza, salmon, pasta and steak. All recommended to us by our server. She recommended eating family style and she was right on. We loved it all and being able to taste a little of everything. Service was very friendly from the moment we walked in. Not at all stuck up like I had expected. Looking around it seemed l... read more
Horrible Service, Did I say Horrible Service – I don't think I have had a worse service experience that myself and party of six had in Portland. The waitress we had was so incredibly stuck up. We waited... and waited... and waited for bread and water. When we asked our "server" what was taking so long, she replied walking away over her shoulder "we're really busy." After waiting for an hour and a half, our food finally arrived. The Tagliata may have well been ice cream and was sent back. Another wonderful surprise was, the "... read more
Good Food; nice place; spotty service – I've eaten at Nostrana at least 6 times. I really liked it at the beginning eventhough the service was uneven - generally acceptable; but not friendly. I like the Nostrana salad, and some of the pizzas (though not all) were very good. The wine list is also quite good. Lately I found that the food is also inconsistent; and the service, unfortunately, is consistently subpar. I hope both management and personnel will realize that the restaurant business is part of the hospitality industry... read more
great food, service=not so great – I have to concur with a lot of what has been said so far - really good food and the service ranges from spotty to unpredictable to deplorable. I've eaten here only about 6 or so times and keep coming back because I've been delighted with everything I've eaten here (especially sformato, Nostrana salad, Tartufo pizza, rhubarb crisp). But man, oh man, the service! Yowsers. Here's a sampling (some of which happened on the same visit): One time the OWNER took our order at the pizza bar and then ... read more
Beautiful space, good food, poor service – We recently arranged a lunch party (8 people) for a birthday at Nostrana on a weekday. Our young waiter took a long time to bring drinks and take orders and did not seem knowledgeable about the menu. He brought the appetizers out at the same time as the entrees and the timing was generally poorly coordinated. During all of this the manager was apparently present, talking on her cell phone in the restaurant, but not helping coordinate service. When it was time for the cake, our waite... read more
Best Italian pizza!!!! – Best Italian pizza! Great pizza just like back in my country! Fresh ingredients are used. All the food looked good and authentic though. Pretty good wine selection.
