Lively and authentic – I've been a loyal Mexico City diner for at least five years, and though the service seems to have diminished recently, it still remains one of the best places to get quality and authentic Mexican food. Do yourself a favor, skip the staple a la carte items and try something new. The beef dishes are excellent and the sauces are always on point. And if you're not looking to dine, try the guacamole and order some margaritas or sangria from the bar. Go with a group as the lively atmosphere is great for part... read more

Still trendy, this Mexican haunt nourishes the Eastside hipster's hankering for food and fun. – The Scene Counterculture minimalism meets Oaxacan folk art, with Day of the Dead figures, piñatas and vibrant expressionist murals. The Food Sure, the gringo standbys are all here, but savvy diners flock to Mexico City for its regional entrees like the blistering camarones enchipotlados (shrimp in tomatillo and chipotle sauce) and the tangy pollo mole verde (chicken in pumpkin seed, cilantro and green pepper sauce). Meats--especia... read more

HIP AND PATHETIC – I really wanted to like this place. I live very close and hoped to have a good mexican restaurant to walk too. Sadly after a few meals there, I'll never go back. Sure the crowd looks cool, but the staff is rude, tables are small and uncomfortable, drinks and food are way over priced and the food is terrible. Bland is too nice a word for the slop they serve. Every item was total crap. I have never had such consistantly bad food and service. There is nothing good to say about this dump.

Authentic & hip – The outside of the place is quite deceiving - go on in and it's a fiesta at a diner! Try anything with the Mole sauce, get some guacamole, and for goodness' sake, have a Margarita, which are the best! You'll get GREAT service by happy people, and plenty of hipsters & famous types go there to just have some good authentic Mexican food. GO!

Me gusta – This review is cumulative for the 8 years that I have been eating at Mexica/Mexico City. The top shelf price of their margaritas is in exchange for TOP SHELF TEQUILA. Like a velvet hammer, they are. Two is my max. Top 5 'ritas on the East side for me. The previous reviewers must have been weened on the Slurpee machine at El Coyote... The Plato Mexica and the crab and shrimp enchiladas are most excellent, but the fajitas are marginal. I've found the service to be quite good actually, and knowledgeable about their m... read more

Rude Manager, Poor Restaurant Overall – Manager was rude and condescending, and aside from the fact that the service was very slow, she charged us for a full meal when we ordered an appetizer. This manager really doesn't care about pleasing her customers, and I won't be going back there. So I'll have to drive a little further for Mexican food--this place just isn't worth it.

Watch your wallet – There's a reason the Margueritas are the only thing without a price on the menu. They're OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE!!! The food is good though, so stick with that and you'll be fine.

Me gusta Mexico City – Come for the drinks and the vibe. Sure, the food is only OK, but this is one of my favorite Mexican places in Los Feliz/Sivlerlake.
