Specialties We serve Angeleno style Mexican food in a lively atmosphere. We make all of our food and cocktails by hand, with fresh ingredients. We are one of the few restaurants that welcomes large parties. History Established in 2003. We are the antidote all the "big plate" Mexican restaurants in town. And a step up from the taco trucks, with a nice place inside to sit down and enjoy a cocktail with a few friends.

fastest servers and bestest drinks – Normally we end up going to a lame bar on the eve of a work holiday. One of my co-workers suggested going to Malo for tacos and tequila drinks. I normally shy away from Mexican food because if they have a bar in Los Angeles that means they will have bad food. Not Malo; I had the best enchiladas with my margarita, and the server was so quick not only to help us choose our tequilas, but also with bringing them to the table. Malo rocks!!!
If "malo" is Spanish for bad, what's Spanish for "lame"? – First of all, this place may have been hip four years ago, but now it just seems like a tired Urban Outfitters cafeteria. The food is mediocre at best and the service is awful. Unless you like listening to the third White Stripes album on a continuous loop and paying $11 for a watery maragarita, I suggest you take it to the McDonalds a couple of doors down.
Best Experience in SilverLake (so far) – I had dinner at Malo on Valentine's Day with my wife and the experience was incredible. We expected ordinary food and service, but were quite surprised. The hostess and server were not the arrogant type like most other restaurants in that area. They actually cared that we were at the restaurant dining. And to have an order of tacos that cost $5.00 on valentines day was a real treat. They were tasty and the drinks we had were delightful.
Wasnt impressed!!!!!!! – From the moment I first entered the restaurant it seemed very cold, like there wasnt any life in there. The hostess wasnt at her station when we got there, and when she finally arrived we didnt feel welcomed. As far as the food goes I should say I would have a better meal going down the street to Acapulco where they really had Mexican food. Malo really stands by its name because the word "malo" means bad in in english. The worst part of all the prices were way too expensive for such a small portion o... read more
Tequila Heaven! – We went on a Saturday night for dinner and maybe a couple of drinks. Unfortunately, we didn't have a reservation, so only the bar side of the restaurant was open to us. This was great! Otherwise, I wouldn't have seen their impressive bar with all those great tequilas! We ended up staying longer than expected as everything we ordered was tasty and our server was super nice. I'll definitely be visiting more often to sample the rest of their tequilas.
my new obesssion – i have been to malo three times in the past 2 weeks. cant get enough of the place. the atmosphere is very 'el carmen' but the food is much much better. the harbenero salsa with creme is absolutely amazing, as is the shrimp al mojo de ajo. everyone i bring here loves the place for the great drinks, fun, hip atmosphere and the fantastic food. i cannot believe its not more highly publicized. its a gem. great place to bring out of town guests. love love it.
Great date place – Went to Malo with a guy I was dating and had a wonderful time. Everyone had been raving about the garden but we ate inside and it was awesome. The space is really dark and intimate, very cozy. The food was awesome and the sangria, delish! The service was great, attentive but not overly so. I would definitely recommend it for a first date or any date actually. And, hey eat in first, then go back and try the garden!
Best Guacamole anywhere, Happy Hour – I just had some cocktails in the bar during Malo's happy hour and was about to leave elsewhere for food. Once we realized that we wanted more drinks it was decided that guacamole would be a fine start. It was so flavorful that we ordered some of the fried tacos. 2 hours past happy hour and a cab ride home all I can think about was that amazing guacamole and salsa. The red one. It all makes sence why it was such a cool place since they own one of the best emo clubs in Silverlake.
Friendly Bartenders, Rightous Margaritas, Brilliant Tacos – The chile rellano, ahhh, was roasted to perfection with a great balance of flavors. The chicken flautas were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside not sure how they got them so juicy. The margarita I had was brilliant as were the soft tacos my brother had.
