Specialties We serve Angeleno style Mexican food in a lively atmosphere. We make all of our food and cocktails by hand, with fresh ingredients. We are one of the few restaurants that welcomes large parties. History Established in 2003. We are the antidote all the "big plate" Mexican restaurants in town. And a step up from the taco trucks, with a nice place inside to sit down and enjoy a cocktail with a few friends.

malo - it means bad in spanish. harbinger? – i've been to malo maybe 4 or 5 times, always with friends who rave about it, but when hard-pressed to explain what exactly they like about it - they default to the fact that it's close to their homes and they have good drinks. the drinks are the only good thing i've had at malo with the minor exception of the habanero cream dip. our service has always been spotty at best, the food is overpriced for what you get. we don't see our waiter often enough and drinks are mostly metled ice... read more
has been better – I've been a big fan of Malo in the past but the food has been off lately. The coke and oj carnitas, usually a favorite, arrived w/o any caramelized pieces and a substitute that was offered was too salty to consume. For the price there's better food elsewhere. But the margaritas are still good!
Good apatizers, great ambience, fun place! – Malo is a great place to have a couple of drinks and chill with your friends. The chips are always hot and the jukebox has great music. Love their tacos! Good place to have a little birthday get together or just hanging out on a friday night.
Good but not "affordable" Mexican food – The food at Malo is very good. The chips and salsa are particular standouts and the margaritas are yummy. My problem with Malo is that it is not cheap despite billing itself as "affordable". You have to pay $4 for chips and salsa, which I gladly do since they are so good, but is practically unheard of at a Mexican place. Also, all of the entrees are a la carte so, while they seem reasonably priced, they do not come with any sides. You have to pay extra for sides! I will continue to re... read more
thank goodness for malo! where to start? first, it is the only bar in silverlake where there is a great crowd, but you can still find a seat. the bartenders are knowledgable and friendly, and the margaritas and mojitos are great! the pastor tacos and the ground beef tacos are addictive...and the habanero salsa rocks! and the desserts (except the flan) are yummy....vegetarians beware--this isn't the place for you....the vegetarian options are weak. the food is affordable, and the juke box is stellar. don't know about the wait... read more
tacos - yummm.... favorite meal & marg! – ok. Malo (which is really stupid name for a restaurant) has fairly decent food if you are on a budget. I'm addicted to the soft chicken tacos or any of their tacos. OTHER than MP the lobster which is (yikes, i never knew what MP meant until i got the bill!) for $7-$8 and then get a house margarita or two!!! * Their margs are fantastic! Not to mention their bartenders are pretty cute too! $14++ gets you dinner and a drink! What person ever paid $200 for 4 people should not be allowed ... read more
malo means bad – If I wanted to spend $200 for 3 people and a couple of tacos and a few shots I suppose I would have a lot of options...and I'm not sure this is the one I would choose. The wait staff seems like they have something better to do than wait on the tables and they try to make you feel special when they do come around. The classic in the let down of los angeles dining. I have no problem spending money (actually I love it) but when you add it up this place is just down right malo. A menu full of high end tequilas o... read more
Addicted... – a. To the Ground Beef and Pickle Taco, aka "the Cheeseburger Taco" to my friends....the homemade chips are great with the guacamole and their flight of salsas...the al pastore melts in your mouth, the fish tacos are always good and the veggie sides are great, especially the savory plaintains and the squash.... b. To the extensive Tequila selection, and especially love the infused version they change regularly, with a wide array of fruity choices that never taste too sweet; blueberry, mango, strawberry.... c. To... read more
I dine out 5 nites a week – O.K silverlake has several "Mexican" restaurants but few can compare to Malo.when It was Cobalt cantina the food was 'O.K' at best. Now the menu kick ass..the food is true Chicano Cuisine.my favorite is two beef & pickle tacos with rice& beans and fried eggs. It's Like my grandmother was in the kitchen cooking for me...the service is good & the prices are great and the crowd is very hip.For those who don't know they have rooms upstairs for private parties. The bar serves a mean margarita and has a ... read more
