Specialties We serve Angeleno style Mexican food in a lively atmosphere. We make all of our food and cocktails by hand, with fresh ingredients. We are one of the few restaurants that welcomes large parties. History Established in 2003. We are the antidote all the "big plate" Mexican restaurants in town. And a step up from the taco trucks, with a nice place inside to sit down and enjoy a cocktail with a few friends.

Severe Disappointment – Since moving to Silverlake, I was very interested in trying Malo. What an enormous disappointment. I took 4 people for a small birthday get-together. The waiter seemed annoyed from the moment he approached our table. I wasn't expecting 5 star cuisine from Malo, but the portions were alarmingly small and tasted like they had been cooked in soot. Malo prides itself on drinks and chips. The chips and salsa were very good but the drinks were like gasoline. I think the concept of a good drink was lost on t... read more
Great bar, not so great restaurant – The bar is great - complete with an awesome jukebox that's updated frequently. You can get a horchata white russian and the mexican beers go down smooth. The restaurant is cute but the food leaves a lot to be desired. You'll need a lot of drinks to wash down the dry chicken tacos. So just hang at the bar - it's never overly crowded - we always seem to get a table.
okay... – I love the food, I love the restaurant, but please get a decent bartender. July 3rd was unacceptable. I thought it was the crowd, but once it died down a girl still couldn't get a drink from the female bartenders... and the attitude was an added bonus.
SIlverlake's best mexican haunt – Living in Silverlake gives me many options for Mexican dining. My favorite place so far is Malo. I like the ambiance, food and cocktails. Service can be spotty at times, but never horrible. The nicest part is that the bar is separate from the dining room and that allows us to have some cocktails at happy hour before having dinner. They also have a kids menu when we bring the entire family which helps keep them in line since they can draw on the table tops with crayons. I have been to a few o... read more
best street food while sitting at a booth – In the past month Malo has quickly become my favorite Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles. The main reason is that you can order some darn tasty tacos that come as if they were ordered on one of the fine taco trucks all around Los Angeles. And to top that off not only can you sit indoors, but have a spectacular margarita to enjoy while eating. On top of that the music rocks and the servers, guests and the manager all seem to know a ton about many of the obscure tequilas that they hav... read more
go anywhere else – I have been here a few times now at friends requests and while the atmosphere is fun - and you can smoke outside - the food is terrible. It's like eating Mexican food in Winnipeg. Tragic considering all the deliciousness so close by.
great bar and restaurant – After my tenth visit here I decided it was time to finally talk about Malo on-line. I do not have enough space on this page to tell you how much I love this restaurant and bar. Every time I visit Malo I enter the bar and have a few margaritas made with the infused tequila. After drinks my friends and I pretend that we are leaving and enter the restaurant through our favorite red curtain. Goofy I know, but we have fun. Once inside the restaurant we always sit on the patio and enjoy plates of the sim... read more
Totally overrated – I am always amazed that so many people flock to this overpriced faux Mexican joint when there's real Mexican food to be found all over the east side. Come on, people, Yuca's on Hillhurst and Tacos Delta on Sunset are each just a few blocks away. And sure, I get that sometimes you want to sit down and have a few drinks, but El Conquistador and Mexico City are right in the neighborhood; who needs to pay upwards of $25 per person for a couple of greasy tacos and watery drinks? Malo's admittedly hip decor and... read more
Great customer service – My boyfriend and I have been going to Malo since we moved here in 2003. We love the environment, the food, and the service. Since we are downtown loft dwellers we frequently shoot down Sunset Blvd and have some drinks and their famous pickle tacos. It?s not like me to write a review on a restaurant, (this is actually my first citysearch review), but I wanted to let the owners and everyone else know how amazing their bartender Dana is. She is always so warm and welcoming and makes my boyfriend and I f... read more
