So Over-rated – I don't get the big attraction to this place. Ok, so we saw it on SNL and SATC, big deal. The cupcakes are dry and small. No better quality than your local grocery bakery, eww. And, to wait in line to boot? No thanks.
tasty but... – I've been to magnolia so many times only a few of them i didnt have to wait in line. I will admit that i also saw it on SATC and then decided to go eat,so that show definetly helped them out-theres even a SATC tour that takes you to the bakery and gives out cupcakes to everyone who partcipated haha!I really like the cake and die for the frosting but recently was turned off by some news I read which said that in 2007 they were closed for like 2 weeks in june or july because they were not as clean and the door w... read more
Get a grip! – You will feel absolutely fabulous standing in line outside a little bakery with a bunch of tourist but get a grip people the cupcakes tasted like they used the mix out-of-the-box. The ones in Beverly Hills at Sprinkles are so much better. So sorry to ruin your party. Besides you have no where to sit. The part across the street doesn't make for cupcake eating. And the cupcakes are so small. OK so the price is reasonable the coffee and milk are good. But you can make just as good cupcakes at home.
cupcakes just don't live up to the hype – After waiting in line for almost an hour, I was expecting the best cupcakes of my life. These were not the best cupcakes of my life, however. They are far too sweet and you can practically taste the butter and cream cheese that make up the overly-rich icing. Though they aren't too expensive at $2 a cupcake, they aren't worth the wait.
After waiting in line for 1 hour .... the results were ... – went here with my husband last weekend for the first time and was really excited to go after hearing all the amazing things about thier cupcakes from my friends. After waiting in line for 1 hour (which i expected) - the cupcakes were: dry, crumbly and the icing was grainy. Truly disappointed - we bought a dozen cupcakes - afer eating 1, then trying another (in case the first one was off) - we threw out the box. It was a waste of money...... I am willing to go back ... read more
Not worth the Calories – My husband and I moved to the area about 2 years ago. We always walked by Magnolia and noticed the huge lines. We made a deal that if we ever walked by and there wasn't a line we would try. Well we finally had out shot. And all we can say is thank goodness we didn't wait in line. This must have been an off day -because we couldn't even finish our cupcakes. We each looked at each other very puzzled on why these were so 'famous'. If you are looking for good cupcakes/cake - try Amy's Bread.
Best Bananna Pudding and Butter Cream Iced Cakes anywhere. – Magnolia Bakery is a part of my history in New York, like Nina Simone at the Vanguard in 1960 or was it 59, Ornette on his plastic horn at the five spot at about the same time as Nina was at the Vanguard and Dakota was at The Village Gate, Berry in SOHO in 72 or maybe 73, an A&P store in the South Bronx where pride surrounded a mother and her son while The South Bronx was on fire. It was the late 90s that I first discovered Magnolia while wandering around The Villa... read more
The worst cupcake ever – I would not recommend this bakery to anyone. The doorman was extremely rude. The cupcake was dry and grainy and the frosting tasted like pure lard. The only good thing was we did not have to wait in line. Do not waste your time.
Eat the Red Velvet Cake....and the world will be a better place for you. – Satisfying my sweet-tooth is not an easy thing to do....as I found on my first trip to NYC. As I had a rough idea where this place was located, I decided it was worth the adventure to seek it out. I was almost turned away by the line snaking out the door late on a drizzy Sunday afternoon. The street scene milling about made it an enjoyable experience...and made the time fly by. I felt myself mesmerized by the scene inside the shop, too. Large mixing b... read more
