Good Cupcakes, Nasty Service – I wait in line for 10 minutes. Just then a Rosie O?Donnell wannabe comes from behind the counter and starts slamming all of the acrylic covers shut, mumbling to no one in particular that they need to be left closed or the cakes will go stale, Mind you, only about 2 of the 6 trays even have any cupcakes left in them. The guy in front gives me a puzzled look. I said, ?She must have been talking to the people that left 3 minutes ago.? She heard me and gave me a dirty look as she walked back into t... read more
Addictive! – Now that I've been to Magnolia a few times, I find myself CRAVING it more and more often. I went again this past weekend and scored one of their hard-to-get red velvet cupcakes. It was rich and moist, and just sweet enough - definitely lived up to the hype. There was a short line around the corner, but it moved fast and the guy at the door was super friendly and chatty. I recommend this place to all my friends, especially out of towners. P.S. I've tried Buttercup Bake shop and Magnolia is way better.
Holy cupcakes – I have to admit, these are good. Not many things can get me to wait on a line half a block long with a smile on my face. These cupcakes rock my world.
Tourist Trap. – I think the bigger hype of this place came after it was featured on TV. Just because I am such an adventurer I decided to try this place and wait 1 hour just to get in! Only in NYC. Anyhow, once you go in they do have lots of cup cakes and other desserts. I will have to say the red velvet was my favorite but so are lot of different desserts are other bakeries. The bakery is so tiny and you are rushed to get your order and leave. One of the sales clerks was so rude, screaming at people to be fast with their or... read more
Great experience! Great cupcakes! – I never watched S** and the City, so all the hype about this place went unnoticed by me. I was walking around in the area and unexpectedly happened upon it. I did recall seeing the Magnolia cookbook in a bookstore one time, so I decided to give it a try. Just upon seeing the cupcakes in the window, I became overjoyed. They are the happiest looking things! I love sweets, and yes, the cupcakes are sugary sweet. They are cupcakes after all! I don't understand all these negative reviews about ... read more
CRAK-CAKES! – They must put somethin in 'em cause they're that good. Just had one at an office party and want another one! Wonder why there are so many negative reviews, maybe stick em in the fridge for a few hours before eating? That's how I had mine. Yum. The frosting was creamy but not too heavy, tasted almost caramel like. Cake moist but crumbly....and mmmm chocolatey.
Great Experience but Mediocre Cupcake – The "Idea" of Magnolia Bakery is great! The location is great! The idea of standing in line for a long time to have a "world famous" cupcake sounds like something you should do on vacation but the truth is they are not that great. If you like doing touristy things then wait for the cupcake, if you think you're waiting in line for something that is going to make your mouth water or make you say "WOW! What a cupcake!" then forget it. Too much frosting and the cake itself was dry. Neat ex... read more
Too Sweet To Swallow. – I have always wanted to try a cupcake from here and last night I finally got the chance. In all honesty and this is just my opinion. I think there was too much frosting and less cake. The frosting was extremely sweet and the cake was not that rich in chocolate. With my first lick I was hoping to be amazed. I scraped off the frosting and just ate the cake. If you really must try one. Go late at night when there are no lines.
Yummo cupcakes! – First of all NYC is jaded. If you live there and don't like tourist spots don't go to Magnolia. However, if you live there, don't mind the wait and want a really great cupcake go for it! I visited with a girfriend on Friday afternoon and the line was a little around the corner, but didn't take more than 15-20 mins. Despite what I'd heard about the staff, they were all polite, much more than I'd expect for what they put up with! The cupcakes were all they are hyped up to be. Very sweet and you'll only want o... read more
