Best cup cake I have had in my life! – All I want to do right now is go back to New York and get some more of their cup cakes! I don't agree with some of the other reviews, I found the cupcakes to be moist and delicious. So, when you are in New York be sure to stop by have a taste and bring some back home with you- because you will crave them!
Disgustingly sweet frosting and Cupcake was Dry – I wanted to check out what the hype was with Magnolia. Yes, the line was out the door & they let ppl in a few at a time. Once inside, it's a free for all. They bring out trays of cupcakes & ppl just grab whatever they can & place them in a box. You don't even know what you're grabbing! That is ridiculous. The cupcakes are small for the high price tag of $2 each. I took one bite & the frosting instantly hurt my teeth. It was that sweet, which I do not like at all, so I wiped i... read more
lives up to the hype – Despite all the popularity it has gained in the last few years, Magnolia Bakery was not on my destination list the last time I was in NYC visiting friends. However, while wandering the Village one day, I did happen across it while browsing shops. Since it was an ordinary weekday, just for a few seconds there wasn't a line, so I decided to go ahead and see what the hype was about. I do love my sugar, and cupcakes are a favorite of mine. Although they were kind of expensive, the cupcakes did live up to a... read more
Amazing Cupcakes – This place has amazing sweet, rich cupcakes. Just go for the cupcake, it's worth it. I have had slices of their cakes and they are good (but I wouldn't go ga ga over them). It a very tiny shop and gets packed quickly.
Frosting tastes like sugary flour – I don't really know what the big deal is about Magnolia's. Their "secret" just seems to be that they pump a bunch of sugar into both their cake and their frosting. This leaves a cupcake that is too one-dimensional in flavor (I'm taking the specialty cupcakes out of this discussion). The frosting honestly just takes like sugary flour. Their cake is not exceptionally moist either. NOT worth waiting in their super long line for.
Best Cupcakes in NYC – Wow, the cupcakes here are so amazing! Luckly I went early on a Saturday right before the crowds arrived. They had a large assortment of cupcakes and other yummy sweets. The chocolate and vanilla cupcakes are fantastic; however, they are seriously sweet. The icing is pure sugar. If you have a chance to make it down to the West Village give these cupcakes a try. P.S. to all the S&TC fans who want to eat these cupcakes like Carrie & Miranda did, Carries appt (66 Perry St) is very close to Magnolia. So ge... read more
YUMMY TO MY TUMMY!! – I visited NYC 4 years ago and stumbled on this bakery. There was a line outside so I figured I must have found some local gem. I tried a vanilla cupcake and found the cake to be too dense while the icing was sugary delicious. Wanting to give it another shot, I again visited last week and tried a chocolate cupcake this time. The cake was great and the icing still as great as ever. Maybe just the vanilla ones are dense? Or maybe it depends on the batch? Anyway, I ordered a flouerless chocolate cake for my... read more
What's all the hype about? – I was so excited to try one of these famous cupcakes. Unfortunately, my double chocolate cupcake was dry and stale with no flavor, except for the brick hard chocolate icing which was waaaaay too sweet. I tried the vanilla cake and it wasn't any better. It's such a cute bakery (even with the cupcake bouncers at the door) in such a cute neighborhood. Too bad the cupcakes tasted like sugared cardboard.
A tasty little treat – Magnolia Bakery has great cupcakes, and it's in a cute little neighborhood, which is an added bonus. Don't skip a trip here just because some people complain about the quaintness of the bakery, or the sugary frosting. You come here to taste the cupcakes that don't taste like anything you've ever tried. It's partially the experience, so just come, enjoy it, and then tell all your friends you went to Magnolia.
