Ok, two time loser... – I visit NYC about ten times a year on business and have always made a point to take my wife and kids a half dozen cupcakes home from Magnolia. Well, the last three times the cupcakes have been sub-par. I chose to ignore the first two bad experiences b/c I had had dozens of previously excellent ones, however, this is the third time in a row that I have been dissappointed w/ the quality of the cupcakes. I don't know what has happened but something definitly has. Used to be a great place but now I think ... read more

tourist trap thriving on tv show hype... – If you want to wait in a long line, only to be ordered around by a disrespectful bouncer, (yes - they have a doorman) to buy a cupcake that has icing that is far too sweet (pure grainy sugar) and a crumbly cake texture (not moist at all), then you should go. Personally, I was so unimpressed with the product that I would not go back for more even if there was no line and no evil doorman - this is a tourist trap thriving only on the power of a cameo in a television show....so many bet... read more

too sweet, too big, but light – I come from Westchester, not much of a commute. The cupcakes are way too big & the icing is like a spoonfull of sugar. However, the icing and cake is very light (but still probably full of calories). I like the crafty look of them! The other pastries there are pretty good. I've gone multiple times and probably still will continue going as long as the line is not too long. I'd only go once in a while, though.. having the cupcakes repeatedly is just way too much for me.

Great customer service, friendly staff – The cupcakes were delicious; the keylime variety was my favorite. The treats scream for cold milk to accompany them; a lovely park in which to enjoy the desserts sits almost adjacent to the bakery. The whole experience is a throwback to the 1950's; the key to a great excursion is plenty of 'wait in line' time.

Overrated – Nothing bad to say about this place-- it's just average style food at absurd prices. I guess it's fun for tourists though..

Avg Place – The cupcakes are good, but not great. The place is not the cleanest place and was actually shut by NYC for a short time for it. Id go to Billy's or one of the other places. This one is living on past glory.

Good Vanilla With Chocolate Frosting Cupcakes – I went on a Sunday and of course, as Magnolia is known for, there was a line. I think I had to wait around 15 minutes or so until I reached the doorway. I really like how there's something like an usher, to regulate the number of customers inside the small store. The workers were unobtrusive but friendly when engaged in conversation. I'm not really fond of the self-serving; using wax paper to pick up cupcakes can be messy. There were chocolate cupcakes with very colorful frosti... read more

no big deal – I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. The cupckes are dry and the frosting is way too sweet. They look pretty though. The self serve is a pain in the neck, very messy, and probably a health hazard.

UNREAL! best in the city – i've tried other places, but still keep coming back. and the reason? they're the perfect SIZE. you can get a great mouthful with icing and cake, without having to sacrifice one for the other. the icing is super sweet, but the cake really balances it out. best in the city. and go on a random weeknight, no lines. plus it's a great end to the evening for dessert. love the fact that they're open so late too.
