Good....but I've had better – Yes, the frosting is super sweet but you can get them without the frosting also. Good to go to if you're in the neighborhood but I wouldn't make a special trip especially if there is a long wait to get in.

Fantastic cupcakes! – My daughter had seen Lazy Sunday a long time ago and decided she wanted to try the famous Magnolia cupcakes. She went with a friend to NYC to sample and bring some home. We each tried the cupcakes. They were GREAT. Moist, tasty, with the right amount of sweetness in the frosting. They held together well... not the slightest bit crumbly. They were the perfect cupcake. WE WANT MORE! WORTH THE TRIP!

Worth the wait – I'll be honest...after seeing these cupcakes on SATC and The Devil Wears Prada, I was dying to try one. I waited in line for about ten minutes, and I actually found it a little charming that they had a woman at the door regulating how many can come in--who knew that Magnolia Bakery had a bouncer? I got a chocolate cupcake with blue frosting, and it was very good. My boyfriend got a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting, and I'll admit that his frosting was better than mine. We ate them at the park across... read more

Great Company, Great Weather, Not so Great Cupcakes – Fortunately the weather this weekend was really great for a nice walk after lunch over to Magnolia's for some of their 'famous' cupcakes. The line was fairly long and around the corner which is apparently not unusal. We had fun waiting the 30 minutes it took to make it to the door. This seemed like a flash back to the Seinfeld episode of the Soup Shop with everyone moving in fairly good order. Once inside, the atmosphere is upbeat and the employees seem to be enjoying the... read more

Better Than Other People Have Said – Like many others, we saw the Lazy Sunday SNL sketch and had to go. Prior to going I read a lot of reviews online where people argued the cupcakes were horrible and too sweet and dry. I would have to disagree. I bake a LOT and am kind of snobby about dessert food, and I have to say that I was very happy with the cupcakes at Magnolia. The chocolate ones were tastier than the vanilla, but the cupcakes were moist and flavorful. The frosting is sweet, but they don't put on too much, so it comp... read more

Eww, what a waste – We searched for this bakery on June 12th and finally found it, it's a tiny little shop where the workers were sitting around in the customer area. My husband and I bought 4 cupcakes, 1 vanilla with chocolate icing, and one chocoalte with vanilla icing each since we heard a lot of great things about the place. They are small and cost $2 each. The cake part of it was extremely dry and the icing was disgusting. You can get a better cupcake from the local grocery store or just use a premade mix like betty cro... read more

Nothing special – The cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery are nothing to go crazy about. I actually liked the plain buttercream frosting (but I'm no expert) but the cupcakes were SO DRY! I agree with the other reviewer in that their flavor was very 2-dimensional. I did like the flavor of the red velvet but again, it was incredibly dry. The cupcakes at Sugar Sweet Sunshine (I think that's the name) are more moist. The cupcaks there are made by one of the bakers/owners from Magnolia Bakery. I think I might be a little crazy but out of... read more

Nauseating! – I was in NY for vacation and decided to give the cupcakes a try because of all the hype. I was so dissapointed. The actual cupcake was super hard. The frosting tasted like butter with a sugar overdose. If you are a real cupcake fan, go to Crumbs. You won't regret it. During my 5 day stay, I went everyday and even brought back home a 1/2 a dozen.

Not impressed – On my second trip to NYC, my sister (who's a caterer) and I found the bakery on a random weekday and luckily found no line but unluckily were greeted with an unfriendly staff who were standing around doing nothing. My sister stood in front of 2 chatty employees and kept trying to get their attention for help for about a good 5 minutes and when she finally did get attention, the employee had a nasty attitude for being interrupted. After trying out the cupcakes, my sister and I were not impressed. Since no one ... read more
