Located along the Lockport section of the Erie Canal, this amazing underground boat ride is unique. Using a custom-built flat-bottom boat, visitors go on a half-mile trip through a man-made hydraulic raceway cut out of solid rock, the work of 19th-century genius Birdsill Holly— the man who gave the world the fire hydrant and zoned steam heat. Accompanied by a guide and trained operators, the 1 1/4-hour ride is thrilling and perfectly safe.

This was a really great adventure. It took about an hour and a half in total. It was a u inquest experience exploring the man made cave. There were still a few original artifacts and the guide (Kevin) was very informative on the history. Who knew that the fire hydrant would be invented from this idea of moving and controlling water to harness it power. Very cool.

We're happy to hear you enjoyed your visit, Jodie! :D
I went here today (Father's Day) with two of my daughters and their husbands, and my two little grandsons 3 and 5. It was a very informative and fun tour. Our guide Ken made it very entertaining. I've lived in the area my whole life and never knew most of the information that we were told. I thought maybe the two little ones might not be interested, but they thought it was awesome, especially the boat ride at the end. I would definitely recommend it, and it was very reasonably priced.

A very interesting tour both outside and inside, our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Make sure you have something waterproof, or are not bothered about getting dripped on. :-) Bring a flashlight.
