I saw Dr. Alvernia after being referred to him for my sciatica. I was referred by Affinity Orthopedic Clinic. After viewing my x-rays and MRI, he suggested that I have physical therapy for six weeks. I did my therapy and at the time did not really see a difference. However, with continuing exercises at home, my sciatica has improved greatly to where I can function normally again. I'm not having to take any medication. I'm so very pleased with Dr. Alvernia and his advise.
Dr. Alvernia was my 3rd opinion and thank God I found him! He tried steroid injections & PT in hopes of preventing a fusion, but symptoms worsened. He felt we had no other choice if I wanted to continue with my extremely active lifestyle and on June 5, 2017 performed L4-L5 TLIF with screws and inter-body cage. I can say from my heart that I have never known a physician nor surgeon with such precision and character - from his office to the hospital room - and I will never use anyone else!!!!!
I had back pain, couldn't get up and my legs were numb. I had stenosis in my back. Dr. Brown sent me to alvernia because he doesn't do back surgery anymore. I had L4-L5 fusion with decompression. My surgery was three months ago, immediately after surgery, I was pain free. I have taken ANY pain meds after surgery. For 2 months I couldn't carry anything heavier than 10 lbs, nor drive. After 2 months, I could drive short distances.Now,i am gradually getting back to normal activity.I wear back brace
I was told by another neurosurgeon in Monroe that there was nothing he could do for my condition without even examining me or taking vitals.He sent me to Alvernia for evaluation.i was having back and leg pain, I had a herniated disc which dr.alvernia fixed and did a lumbar fusion.He explain everything to me and my family thoroughly. I am 5 months out now, not wearing a back brace anymore and I am back at work at the hospital. Janelle in the office is great with facilitating the whole process!
My Neurologist sent me to A due to headaches, falling, and pain in back of neck. After my first visit with him, he concluded that I needed a C5-C6 ACDF due to cervical stenosis. He had a thorough workup before surgery(which I appreciate) bone density, cardiology, xrays, head/neck CT. I had my surgery at P&S 5 weeks ago and I feel WONDERFUL! From the time I woke up from surgery I have had NO PAIN and HAVENT TAKEN A PAINPILL. I He is professional, attentive, spends as much time as necessary, etc.
Dr. Alvernia is the best Surgeon anyone could possibly hope for. He has a wonderful personality and he cares about his patients. My mom recently had a laminectomy and Dr. Alvernia explained everything clearly to my family. Also, whenever we had any questions after the surgery, he was happy to answer them. My mom was able to walk the same day!!!! I was worried about her recovery because she has Lupus but he did an awesome job! Thank you so much Dr. Alvernia. Erica
I had foot drop and went to see Dr.A. He could tell my case was unique so he ordered extra testing. He figured out that I had an extra vertebra on my lumbar spine. He isolated where my exact nerve problem was. I had a laminectomy and discectomy by him, and I am fully recovered. I had full understanding and confidence in him due to him being approachable and willing to explain his findings. P&S was top-notch in every aspect. I spent one night there and was discharged home, walking the next day.
I believe he is one of the finest Drs I have meant. I couldn't of asked FOR A BETTER dR AS FAR AS SURGERT AND AFTER CARE. I HIGHLY RECOMMENT THIS dR.
Dr. Alvernia was the fourth doctor I saw for the pain in my left leg and foot. Immediately upon seeing my MRI Dr. Alvernia explained that I had a cyst pinching off my Sciatic nerve and it had to be removed. Within a few days the surgery was performed and the pain ceased immediately. Dr. Alvernia explained what he was going to do and followed through in a very caring manner. My recovery is going very well and I am well pleased with Dr. Alvernia.
