In April 2018 someone filed a false DMCA takedown notice stating that I'd alledgedly published 21 articles that they owned the copyright of. Most of the articles were written by me and several others were free-to-publish articles written by multiple authors. I had no idea this DMCA notice had been issued until I saw that my website had been removed and replaced with a notice that said my account was suspended. I have been with Hostgator for 10 years. I will be leaving when the contract is up. The most recent offense is domains having Auto Renew set to off around March 9 or 10th 2018, and still being billed for them March 21, 2018. Sitting in support chat for 35 minutes WITH someone unable to find the correct domains, even with the names, dates, and invoice numbers provided. cPanel / WHM has not been upgraded and will be past end-of-life in the next few weeks. I had my domain name registered through HostGator. It was set to auto renew, however, it did not auto renew. I had contacted support twice prior to the domain expiration date to be sure it was set correctly. My website was shut down. I contacted HostGator via live chat and they said, yes your settings were correct, but the payment did NOT process. They said I would have to go to their site and manually make a payment. We were sorry to hear about the clients concern. In reviewing the account the domain renewal payment had initially failed through the payment processor. A ticket was created to assist and the admins were able to successfully assist with manually renewing the domain.
Host Gator host my eCommerce site. They have been charging me for adds on that I did not used. They have refused to refund my account. They continue to do this scam tactics. I will never recommend this services to anyone again. Their servers are very slow and ineffective on any business plan. They will intentionally slow down your website and tell you to pay more money. Host gator is very unethical.

My website has been down 8 times in the past two weeks and no one has been able to give me a reason why. I want a refund for all the down time. Today, a customer service rep said that I would have to wait 8 hours for my website to get back up. Not sure what they're doing over there but they're not providing what I paid for. This is unacceptable.

I can confirm the warning that the BBB put up about HostGator. I had multiple hosting packages and domains registered with them and everything was fine, and then around the fall of 2017 everything started going wrong. My site crashes regularly. They charged me for domains that I didn't want. They even charged me for domains that I had already transferred to another name registration company and their own system said were 'deleted' from my account (yet still got charged a renewal). I made a purchase for a *** for 3 years under the understanding that I would have prompt service with and ethical company. Instead, I got awful service and delays with no ability to get my money back. Legal yes, ethical? Not in any way. Lies? many. Don't believe anything they say except that they will take your money.

I asked hostgator to stop charging my card. They asked for my account and I told them I don't have one. The only way they could resolve this was a bank statement, pic of my ID, and a pic of my credit card. I just ended up getting a new card and reported fraud. They were not helpful, and I suggest not to do buisness with this company. Especially when there are so many better company's to choose from.
