My experience is consistent with the pattern of complaints submitted against Hostgator that their invoicing practices are deceptive. Despite my domain cancellation request, I was charged for domain renewals, and customer support will not provide a refund and is non-responsive to my requests to escalate. WARNING! check your hosting package so that if you have sub domains they are not all subsumed together. I cancelled a sub domain and in the process lost my long established business main domain! A long stupid, illogical argument to get it back online! No responsible party can be reached. Don't trust them, bogus "customer concern"-customer beware.

They take weeks to resolve problems, never fulfill their promises, and constantly create errors. My website has crashed multiple times with them due to their lack of competence and after upgrading my account with them, they never refunded the money that they promised to. In reviewing the account in question a refund was provided along with backups after the hosting package had been canceled. Once a hosting package is canceled that content is removed from the server.
Walk away and don't even start with this business. There are so many other web hosting services that are better. I have spent HOURS on the phone and online chat trying to get billing issues resolved after they continued to charge me even after I had cancelled. The service itself has deteriorated significantly over time: websites are extremely slow. They kept giving me credits instead of refunds so I overstayed and ended up paying much more. There are many better options available.

Working with HostGator has been an utter nightmare from the start. Terrible, unresponsive customer service led me to switch hosting providers in a few short months. When my account came up for renewal, they sent me an email notification. How kind of them. The email said it would automatically renew on the 19th of the month if I didn't cancel. I was informed AFTER I PAID, that a scanned copy of my driver's license was necessary in order to activate my account. They are not a bank, a lender, a financial institution, an insurer, or an arms dealer - so for what reason should they be able to REQUIRE a scanned copy of my photo ID?
