This is the parent company of *******. I've been using ******* as a registrar for over 20 years, but am in the process of transferring the last of my clients' domains to other registrars. Their policy of putting an ICANN lock on a domain when they don't receive ownership verification has caused one of my clients' sites to be down for over 9 days. The parent company to Bluehost.com, HostGator and many other hosting platforms is a huge nightmare. Inspired me to write my first BBB review. We used their shared hosting for over a year and decided to move to a dedicated server for increased performance. We paid for migration services to move the website between their servers. We've been using ******** for 8+ years now, as we own and develop several web properties. As of three months ago, one of our biggest sites we were hosting with them went down. After several painful phone calls, nothing was ever resolved. We were just told to wait and were given no estimated time period in which the site would be up. This company is awful. The hosting service never worked and cancelling is incredibly challenging. I have spent the last hour speaking with representatives who tried to deny responsibility for charges and declining to cancel my account. I've been online for over an hour with a patronizing rep who has refused to stop billing.

Went to cancel an account with Hostgator and they wouldn't refund the unused portion of my service. I don't feel they did enough to ensure I was aware of automatic payments and the cancellation policy regarding unused portions.

I had a blog with Hostgator for over ten years. The blog was of writing that was important to me, short stories, articles, poetry and a novella. Most of this work I have copies of. In late fall I ran into financial difficulties and wasn't able to cover the fee and my blog was stopped. Hostgator performed poorly during my abbreviated attempt to host a couple of sites with them. My site performance rated very highly on everything except server response time, but had little luck in improving that after dozens of calls to tech support. My site seemed to even get slower and slower. I decided to try another host, but was shocked to learn that they were unwilling to refund the 2 years of service paid for but that would not be rendered. HostGator advertises as "Unmetered Disk Space" however if you keep files of any kind that takes up lots of space, or have a certain amount of "nodes" or actual files, even text files they freeze your account this is deceptive advertising. Same thing with their pricing, they say $3.99/month but when you go signup its that price if you buy 3 years worth of services in one go. Otherwise you can get a trial account for $3.99 but next month its $14.99.

Please do not use this company. I used them for 10+ years. I finally was able to cancel because my card they had would not renew...they try and renew your hosting package 2 weeks prior to the actual renewal date. I specifically requested that I have access until my cancellation date via a LIVE agent, and was reassured that I would indeed have access until the last day.
