Dr Hickman has done two hip surgeries for me, one a full replacement, and the last was a revision of an older hip replacement that was done years ago by a different surgeon. I have gone from being a person unable to walk easily or correctly and only with great pain to a person who can choose the project I want to accomplish each day. Everything went smooth! Dr Hickman got me in for a full hip replacement in no time, all his staff is very professional and would definitely recommend him!
At my initial assessment, Dr. Hickman told me recovery from Anterior Approach hip replacement surgery would be 1000 times better than my previous experience. He was right. I came home the SAME DAY as my surgery, felt great, had what I would call 'soreness' not really pain. I needed no pain meds. Once home I used a walker for 2 weeks then moved to a cane. I had my knee replaced by Dr Hickman. He was overly cautious when then was the slightest possibility that I might have an infection and put me on antibiotics even though I may not have needed them. I am grateful for that as I would rather take a few pills than have an infected joint. His PA-C on the other hand I was disappointed in because I specifically told them I was allergic to adhesives and what I woke up to was a glued shut knee with this great big adhesive strip on it that I had an allergic reaction to. I recently had two total knee replacements approximately eight weeks apart. Dr. Hickman and his team performed both surgeries. Although I am still completing the healing process, I am very happy with the results and feel very fortunate to have chosen Dr. Hickman. He and his team were very professional, positive, and kind as I was going through this process. They explained and showed me what to expect through each step of the process. I have had both hips done now (Birmingham hip resurface) The first one in Dec. 2018, the second, Dec. 2022. Both are doing great now. I highly recommend Dr. Hickman, and all his staff.
Todays visit was a follow up of hip replacement surgery in Sept 2021.
After 25 days played 9 holes of golf. Walking after two weeks without any support. Getting back to my normal schedule without pain. Will be getting my other knee replaced soon and will definitely be going back to Dr. Hickman.
I have had both hips replaced by Dr. Hickman and each time was done with the highest professionalism, the highest care and quality.
