Both my hips were worn out and I was in constant pain in my lower back and hips. A family member had a knee replaced a few years ago and suggested I see Doctor Hickman. A previous knee replacement from a different Dr left me with a severe infection. I was afraid what that meant for my future, afraid I might lose my leg. I went in to see Dr Hickman whose first words were “ We’re going to take care of you.” I was scheduled for surgery immediately for the fist part of the knee revision; while I was in the hospital Dr Hickman’s office came in to check on me every day and called me after I went home. Dr Hickman has done two hip surgeries for me, one a full replacement, and the last was a revision of an older hip replacement that was done years ago by a different surgeon. I have gone from being a person unable to walk easily or correctly and only with great pain to a person who can choose the project I want to accomplish each day. At my initial assessment, Dr. Hickman told me recovery from Anterior Approach hip replacement surgery would be 1000 times better than my previous experience. He was right. I came home the SAME DAY as my surgery, felt great, had what I would call 'soreness' not really pain. I needed no pain meds. Once home I used a walker for 2 weeks then moved to a cane. I had my knee replaced by Dr Hickman. He was overly cautious when then was the slightest possibility that I might have an infection and put me on antibiotics even though I may not have needed them. I am grateful for that as I would rather take a few pills than have an infected joint. His PA-C on the other hand I was disappointed in because I specifically told them I was allergic to adhesives and what I woke up to was a glued shut knee with this great big adhesive strip on it that I had an allergic reaction to. I recently had two total knee replacements approximately eight weeks apart. Dr. Hickman and his team performed both surgeries.
