The car they gave me smelled like smoke and it broke down after one use and had to be towed. After spending a total of ten hours navigating their call centers, I was told that according to their policy, they could not give me a refund because the customer is liable for the first five days regardless of the state of the vehicle. I can't believe they are still in business.

Unfortunately to get to leave a comment you have to give at least 1 star. The Hertz customer service is a zero star. I canceled a reservation on line through Hertz.com. I never received a cancelation email. I could no longer access the reservation (hopefully because it was successfully canceled). I continued to receive text notifications about the reservation. rented a car 2 weeks ago reservation was confirmed when I arrived to pick up my rental i was notified that im on the do not rent list! after taking a **** an hour to get to the rental place to pick up my rental i then had to get another **** home! i eventually got a rental from another company! the reason for the do not rent was because of an accident that we were not at fault on AND my insurance was covering anything the at fault drivers insurance wouldnt have covered This is a joke! We rented a car from Hertz while in from Florida visiting East St Louis and ended up having a flat tire and was stranded in an unfamiliar area. NO SPARE TIRE WAS IN TRUNK & took over an hour to get roadside assistance on phone. Were informed that tow truck driver does not bring a spare, so car would have to be towed to the airport. We were given the option to end contract early rather than go thru trouble of getting ride to airport to pick up another car, then turn around and return it at 6am (by this time is was 10pm). Took 4 months to send me a refund on a car I wasn't able to rent at pick up. Only to charge my card AGAIN 15 DAYS LATER WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION. Just spent another hour on the phone for them to tell me their sorry and they will send it to who the **** knows to see IF they can credit my card AGAIN. HORRIBLE! I can't even use my bank card cause they TOOK OUT AGAIN!

We will NEVER rent from this location EVER again. We had a mini van reservation for $798 total for a one week. We wanted something larger but they were sold out online. When we got to Hertz, we asked the agent checking us in if he had anything bigger that we didn't see on line. They did! We were super excited. He told us it would only be an extra $32 a day for the vehicle. This man opened up their brochure with all their contract agreements and yada yada. Cool. We agreed. WOW*is all I can say! Rented my car for a off grid vacay, tire light came on within an hour or so after I picked up the vehicle, we were already on the road at this point so we just aired up all the tires and proceeded to our destination...the air tire light was pointing to the passenger front tire! Got to our off grid destination (off grid meaning no WiFi or cell service) woke up the next day for our hiking excursion and the tire light was on once again, our choices were waiter air it up or drive 2 hours to the nearest town... read more

My family had a car rented in San Juan, PR in July,2021. We were scheduled to pickup it up at Marriott hotel,instead of airport,for a normal price of $330 for week. When we got to hotel to pickup, we were told that site had closed few weeks earlier due to covid. We could not reach Hertz at airport. We had received a confirmation for rental week before trip ,with no changes specified. We then had to rent through another company for triple the price. Scammers! Paid what we thought was in full of the week we rented a vehicle. Representative tried to get us to upgrade. Told us he was upgrading for free because my husband was military. Receipt said we paid $386 and I told him we already paid $405. He told us that charge would be taken off and this was the new charge. My husband signed the receipt.
