On 09/10/2021 we arrived from Burbank, CA to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. We previously made a reservation to rent a car from Hertz through the Price line. The woman at check in was slow, rude, uninformative and unhelpful. We asked for her supervisor and waited quite some time for him. Nasty experience booking a car with Hertz via Kayak. The location is 933 Francisco Blvd East San Rafael, CA What looked to be a straightforward booking of a rental car with Hertz went awry. I searched to be sure there were no cancellation fees. It said there were none. Then I received the booking confirmation which said, "This reservation is non-refundable. Rude, fraudulent charges after car returned. They will not answer phone. The front desk will ignore you and be very rude if you question any kind of charge. DO not go to this dirty unprofessional business. They don't care about customer. Only charging you police insurance the same bill.
I reserved through the app. The location I selected was closed when I was dropped off via Uber with a note on the gate telling me to call one of two nearby locations. I received no phone call, email or notice of any kind that this location would be closed, which is unacceptable. The two locations I was told to call did not pick up, which was a horrific experience when sitting on the side of the road, left by an Uber driver, frightened I wouldn't have a car to drive to my paid for hotels in nearby cities. My daughter and I had a small hiccup during the car rental process, however, Basman with the Hertz at Jax airport was SUPER helpful and very calm while we were very nervous and stressed. He was AMAZING, knowledgeable and had us on our way in no time! Our 3rd party app stated we had reserved a "full size" car however, on the Hertz side the reservation was for a compact car and Basman actually took the initiative to meet us half way and gave us a small SUV! Hertz sent us to a shut down location which it sent us notification. It then sent us clear across the city. This cost > $36.00 in cab fees. Upon arrival the employee was not helpful and rude. We were told there was nothing to be done and the the cab fees were 'unfortunate'. No credit to our rental fee would be made. We were then directed to a compact SUV - we rented and were charged for mid-size. We were told 'it's all that's available. We took the car as we had to get to our destination. Landed at Sky Harbor in Phoenix and went to the Hertz counter. Very friendly guy who told me the pickup I rented was unavailable, but no worries I would get a FREE upgrade! I was offered a Ford explorer or Jeep Wrangler. We took the jeep and had a wonderful time. Turned the jeep, flew home, and found my final bill email. My free upgrade cost me $125. Lesson learned: if a sales rep smiles and their lips are moving their lying.
I had such a bad experience with Hertz. My partner and I rented a car and when we arrived to pick it up it was not available. We were told to cancel online, which I was not able to do and I've now spend the last three weeks on the phone with Priceline and Hertz to get a refund. I'm so sick of companies that make it impossible to speak with anybody and then transfer you endlessly.
