Very poor costumer experience. This company will hang you to dry if you don’t purchase their travel insurance (which they should emphasize when you purchase a package from them). Just for this reason alone (lack of care and empathy for their costumers), I will never use them again. Sure, they might be great if all goes as planned but if something happens, don’t count on Gate 1 to help you out! Best trip, best tour guide. We stayed in great places and had wonderful food. This is my second Gate 1 package. Israel and Costa Rica.
I made a reservation for a cruise in Europe. As usual, I completed a travel insurance just in case (I am 74). A week later with my wife decided, this trip would not be good for us, because we will not be able to keep up with the tours they offered. Originally, I wanted to make the reservation by phone, this way I would understand their policy. Five of us, varied ages, did the 10 day Gate 1 china trip to Beijing, Xian and Shanghai in the beginning of August 2017. I've traveled all my life and this was the least enjoyable trip we have ever taken. We went on a nice trip to Costa Rica with Gate 1 last year where my only complaint was too much time spent on buses. Base on the many reviews, I was excited to use gate 1 to book my birthday vacation to Dubai for the end of this year. I saw a great package and went online to book but was having difficulties so I called the number for gate 1 and was transferred to Anna Marie. At first I thought she would be able to assist me. I booked a tour to Israel for 8 days. Keep in mind this is my 5th time with Gate1 so i know my experience will be amazing. Unfortunately this one feels like it’s going down hill. The places that we went do far are purely for marketing purposes. They brought us to the art gallery where obviously no one can afford to buy anything so I don’t know the purpose of it. Our train from Florence failed to stop in Rome due to snow. Not gate ones fault, but trying to call their 800 number had all ten of us getting dropped from their phone tree. The direct number didn’t work either. My question is, where was the gate one rep that was supposed to meet us at our hotel? When ten clients didn’t show, you’d think they would call, email, message or send smoke signals. We signed up for the self guided tour, not the “abandon us with complete disregard” tour.
Just returned home from the “Tuscany Fly & Drive w/ Milan” package. Can’t say enough good things! The four of us who went had never been abroad before, but going with gate1 made it seamless! Car reservation, hotel reservations and flights were handled- all we had to do was show up! The location of our hotel in the town of Montecatini Terme couldn’t have been better or more centrally located. We could get to any of the major Tuscan sites by train. And for the price?! Can’t beat it. Definitely recommend.
